Trump just confirmed the cyberattack against the Russian Trolls.
When the US is doing their cyberattacks against Russia, they are usually secretive about it. However, President Donald Trump just confirmed to the Washington Post interview that he allowed an attack against the Internet Research Agency (a troll team key to Russian interference with US elections since 2016) which started on the day of the 2018 US midterm elections that lasted several days.
Trump characterized the move as effective. “Look, we stopped [Russia],” he said to the Post.
Trump also wrongly claimed that former President Obama “said nothing” about Russian interference during the 2016 election. However, last October 2016. Obama publicly criticized Russia for targeting the Democrats. The former president imposed sanctions in December. Reports also rumored that Obama launched a secret cyber operation last August 2016 after learning of Russian attempts to hack the American election systems.
The 2018 US attack on Russia was reportedly meant to interrupt efforts to toss doubt on the legitimacy of midterm election results. Showing that the Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives.
Trump previously claimed that Russia had stopped cyberattacks against the US . He also claim to support Russian President Vladimir Putin’s denials of interference in the 2016 election despite having a shred of evidence.
It’s uncertain how Putin will respond to Trump’s statement. American intelligence agencies and internet giants have given much attention to potential Russian actions during the 2020 election.
