Gaming phones have a small audience. However, more mainstream phones also follow their apps later on. A perfect example of this is high refresh rate screens like 2017 Razer Phone and the 2018 Asus ROG phone. Today phones like the Galaxy S20, and Motorola Edge, all display a high refresh rate.
One of the best gaming phones of Asus is the second version of the ROG phone called ROG Phone 2. The phone takes all its hardware and cranks it to the next level.
What is the Asus ROG Phone 2?
The ROG Phone 2 is packed with a monstrous AMOLED 6.59-inch screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It also features the new Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset from Qualcomm, overclocked to 2.96GHz, combined with the 12 GB RAM. The ROG Phone 2 has a original 512 GB and a 1 TB version, with a matte black finish. It also has the block ‘s largest battery-6000mAh-and supports fast charging feature, up to 4.0 (30W) Easy Charge.

Asus ROG Phone 2 Design

ROG Phone 2 is definitely a large mobile phone. It shows a 6.59-inch screen. The phone is 9.48 mm tall (1.3 cm bigger than the iPhone 11 Pro Max). It is among the thickest phones in the world at 9.5 mm thin.
There’s an almost indistinguishable surface on the backside to that seen on the first ROG Phone. Flip it around, and you’ll see a curved glass, a ROG light-up logo, and a mirror. Not to mention, it also have some large glyphs that give the phone its competitive edge of design.
The computer occupies the top of the window, showing a bit of frame, stereo speakers and a selfie camera. Flip it around to see an almost identical finish to the one seen on the original ROG Handset. It has a curved glass, a ROG light-up logo and a mirror, not to mention some hangry-looking glyphs that give the handset its aggressive design edge.
Not satisfied with a single USB-C slot? The ROG Phone 2 has two connectors, one at the bottom and one at the edge, for in-game landscape charging. To the right side are the volume and power buttons, and there is also a headphone port.
Asus ROG Phone 2 Performance, Gaming
The Asus ROG Phone 2 is an electronic powerhouse with a Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset that is timed at 2.96GHz and paired with 12 GB DDR4X RAM to set it at the peak of its game. Hence, it serves everything from gaming to the UI.
The USB port on its side allows users to comfortably charge the phone while landscape gaming conveniently.
Asus ROG Phone 2 Battery life

The Asus ROG Phone 2, with an incredible 6000mAh of battery power, is a 48-hour bonafide phone with light to use daily. You can charge the phone up to nearly 50 percent in just 30 minutes through its HyperCharger.
Screen-on time is also impressive. The phone battery only lost just 4 percent after 30 minutes of streaming at 120Hz medium brightness. Lowering the screen refresh may extend the life of the handset, as even a fast dip into the settings may.
Asus ROG Phone 2 Software
The ROG Phone 2 runs with Android 9 over the top of Asus’ ROG UI. Asus, this time, has introduced a huge amount of flexibility to the mix.
While you can’t change the physical design of the ROG Phone 2 theme, it will still be a shockingly angry-looking kit item. The UI is highly customizable. Asus added an option for the practically packed UI theme as well as two more gamer-centric options.
Thanks to the 120Hz screen and CPU, navigation over both is as smooth as sugar. This includes a device tray, several home screens, pull-down updates, and a quick menu toggle.
A new Console menu allows control over the speed and RGB lighting of the included fan.
Verdict
Asus has hit it out of the park with the ROG Phone 2. If you like its rugged looks and don’t mind the lack of wireless charging, nothing else comes near this phone.
