Unova week, the final week of Pokemon GO‘s Ultra Unlock event begins this Friday, August 14, starting at 4:00 pm EDT (8:00 pm UTC). The operation will run until Friday, August 21, at 4:00 pm EDT (8:00 pm UTC).
Pokemon GO Five-Star Boss Raids
As with previous weeks, the five-star Boss Raids will have a legendary or mythical Pokemon available. These monsters rarely appear in the game that it’s basically the best time to defeat them and catch them.
Players had a chance to catch a Rayquaza and its Shiny counterpart during Dragon week, while players could find Deoxys and a Shiny counterpart during Enigma week. Mythical Pokemon Genesect will be back again this time around.
Genesect appeared in regular Raids for the first time. The only way to get it is by EX Raids, which would take an invitation, or the completion of the Pokemon GO Special Research story case.
If you haven’t had the chance to capture Genesect yet, now is your chance. But first, you need to defeat the Pokemon on five-star Boss Raids.
How to defeat Genesect
Genesect is a Bug / Steel Pokemon. There are quite a few Pokemon that won’t work against it. Still, it’s incredibly vulnerable to fire forms. So you can use the most powerful Pokemon-type Fire on the Raid.
Here are the best defenses that you can use against this legendary Pokemon and their best combos:
- Moltres with Fire Spin + Overheat
- Chandelure with Fire Spin + Overheat
- Entei with Fire Fang + Overheat
- Flareon with Fire Spin + Overheat
- Charizard with Fire Spin + Blast Burn
Working four to seven friends against Genesect is recommended. This Pokemon is on the highest Raid Tier. Meaning, this creature has a massive Combat Power (CP) and quickly knock down your Pokemon, especially if they’re vulnerable to it or their moves are not efficient.
With that, you’ll want to avoid using a Psychic-type Pokemon against it.
Firstly, they are weak against Bug-type moves. So they’ll be at a considerable disadvantage if paired with their inability to cast a super effective or even a normal attack against the Pokemon.
Genesect is a pretty good bug-type attacker when you set it up with Fury Cutter and X-Scissor! This doesn’t work very well in PvP. So using Fury Cutter, X-Scissor and Magnet Bomb could help if you just want to give it a try.
When you build a team, it’s best to call out your best friends. The friendship level will have a significant effect on the Raid and allow your Pokemon to beat Genesect easier. If you are both at level 40 or at least level 35, the better.
How to defeat Shiny Odds
It will be the first time Pokemon GO revealed a Shiny Genesect. Now is the perfect time to stock up on your Raid Pass and enter as many raids as possible. Remember, the chances of finding one in 20 Shiny Genesect are one.
If you’re very fortunate, you can find one as soon as you start the Raid or after several attempts, but it’s implausible.
