For many big companies who would like to acquire TikTok, here comes Walmart.

Walmart’s buying TikTok has shocked many companies and people, for they did not see this coming. For the past few months, many Tech Giant companies have been rumored to acquire the Chinese-owned Video platform, TikTok. Some of these companies are Apple and Microsoft.

The company’s recent announcement of teaming up with Microsoft to purchase TikTok said that this deal would allow Walmart to leverage social media platforms. As they are aiming to reach younger generation consumers and start an e-commerce platform.

Walmart’s Buying Douyin, TikTok’s Second Version

TikTok’s Chinese app version is Douyin, is what really enticed Walmart to gain the app. This mobile app is an online marketplace where video stars promote different products. Thus, making it to be the best model for the retail company.

ByteDance is the Chinese Social Media giant that runs both Tiktok and Douyin. They have eventually rolled out the “Shop Now” button on TikTok and redirect users to shopping sites.

China’s E-commerce Platforms

China’s e-commerce platforms have been trying to infiltrate their social media through live-streaming apps to boost shopping functions. According to reports, the estimated amount would be $140 billion in merchandise that has been sold using this type of online strategy.

The estimation has triggered vast amounts of retail experiments of other kinds. One example of this is the Pinduoduo, which turned out to be the largest retail company in China. And currently, Pinduoduo’s app has nearly 570 million people every month.

The Douyin app started out by allowing video creators to post links to their stores on China’s largest online bazaar, such as Alibaba’s Taobao platform. This then allows users to set up storefronts within the Douyin app itself.

The Comments

“You’re scrolling very quick through content,” Mr. Bern said, which means that few people on the app are going to buy, say, a pricey wristwatch. “You will think twice about it, then basically the video is gone already.”

“That’s why I think the Walmart thing is pretty interesting,” he added. “They can sell their cheaper products directly to that audience in TikTok,” he said in accordance to Walmart’s buying TikTok.

Microsoft Is Reported To Purchase TikTok

Microsoft has arisen as the potential buyer after Trump’s reports pushing ByteDance to sell their TikTok’s US operations. This allegation was reported first by the Fox Business Network’s Charles Gasparino on Friday.

A TikTok representative stated, “While we do not comment on rumors or speculation, we are confident in the long-term success of TikTok.”

However, Microsoft declined to comment.

In the US, it is still unclear whether the US President Trump has the power to mandate and order a foreign company to sell their state with another US business. This order is said to be the surge to attack TikTok and other Chinese companies, citing security concerns.
