In a surprising scenario: Russia and the United States may have started a new war against each other. However, not with firearms or resources, but as the first ever team to film a movie in the International Space Station (ISS).
Between Hollywood actor Tom Cruise, and still unknown Russian female superhero lead: which movie will succeed in the end?
Russia’s NASA plans to make a movie
Russian space agency Roscosmos announced to make a feature film to be taken at the space itself.
The agency is currently working with the country’s largest TV channel – Channel One – to find a ‘superwoman,’ suitable to lead the space-based movie.
“The Challenge,” or the reported title of the feature movie, calls out a Russian female actress to be the main lead of what appears to be a superhero film taken at actual space.
No words or reports discussed the plot of the film.
What’s the plot?
However, Channel One Russia and Yellow, Black and White Studios, have already started looking for an actress aged 25 to 45 with a ‘chest girth up to 44 inches’ and an ability to flawlessly recite the poem – Pushkin’s letter from Tatiana to Eugene Onegin.
Alexander Pushkin is a classic Russian poet that written the poem, which was also connected to Russian literary heroes.
Here are some lines from the poem:
“Why did you come to visit us
In this forgotten quiet place?
I need not have been tortured thus
If I had never seen your face.”
Other requirements to take the lead in the Russian movie include attaining a specific physical capability, has higher education, and has no criminal records.
Out of 30 finalists, one winner will be undergoing training at a school for cosmonauts that has to be approved by flight commissioners.
“We are seeking a woman who would be able to act on Earth, then endure the most demanding preparation, go to space and there in the state of zero gravity to sort the most complicated filming issues,” said Russian general producer Alexey Trotsyuk.
“This is the first time our studio faced such a demanding task, so we need to find not just an actress but a true superhero,” he added.
This will be the first time that Russia plans to take over the International Space Station, in order to shoot a film.
However, they were not the first ones to have this idea.
Tom Cruise to lead in an ISS-based film
Hollywood actor Tom Cruise have made the headlines when announced as the lead actor in the first-ever film to be taken inside the International Space Station.
Their team will be guided with America’s NASA agency and Elon Musk’s SpaceX company.
Just like the Russian film, there are still no clues on the plot of the film.
Surprisingly, both of the films will be starting their productions over next autumn. With Cruise to be using SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule, while Russian production team will launch in a Soyuz capsule.
