There are some messages that people would want to cherish and/or screenshot to look back on in the future, then again, there are also those that people would rather have sent within the moment and would like them to be forgotten or deleted soon after, which makes the purpose for this Vanish Mode.
Despite many of the other messaging apps already having the options for ephemeral messaging, Facebook has perceived that everyone would rather have something much more quick. Because of this, Facebook has finally introduced this mode that is called Vanish Mode for their Messenger app, and it will eventually come to their Instagram app.
To put it in simple terms, the message will disappear a few or couple of seconds after it has been seen by the other person so that the silly, embarrassing, and secretive messages will be gone.
The new Vanish Mode is actually pretty and quick to enable. All that has to be done would be to swipe up on the existing chat thread, then the user would already be in Vanish Mode. To return back to the regular mode, the user would only need to swipe up again. When in Vanish Mode, the user could send memes, stickers,GIFs, or the reactions wanted, and they would not show up or remain in the chat history.
At the user’s first time swiping up, an introduction together with an explanation will appear telling about how the new feature functions.
Without a doubt, there are definitely some issues concerning the security and privacy with a feature such as this. However, Facebook says that they have already made sure to give the users full control over this. Only for those that the user has been connected with on Messenger would be able to also use the new Vanish Mode in the same chats.
It is definitely an opt-in feature, giving the decision to the user if they would want to enter into this mode or not whenever the other person initiates it.
If someone who the user chats takes a screenshot, they would receive a notification concerning it. When the user begins to feel unsafe after the notification of the screenshot of the conversation, they could easily report the person or block within the conversation
There are many reasons, whether valid or not, to keep the Vanish Mode on. The user could send some embarrassing pictures of themselves that they would not want anyone to keep it saved for using it on them later on. They could also have it used for sending some secret messages that they would not want to be shown in the history of the chat for some reason or another.
The Vanish Mode of Messenger could only be available in a couple of selected countries, including the U.S. Soon enough, it will also be available in Instagram, although there has been no announcement so far as of when it would be added, according to androidcommunity.
This is only accessible on mobile phones. If you don’t have one, get a New Apple iPhone 12 Pro or Samsung Galaxy A51.
