YouTube removed the One America News Network or OANN website, prohibiting them from uploading articles, livestreaming their posts, and updating their channel for a week, which came into effect yesterday.
The video streaming giant suspected OANN of posting a video concerning a potentially ‘false treatment’ for the coronavirus. The YouTube channel of the news media firm ‘breached’ the COVID-19 disinformation policy of the company. The regulation includes a provision against material that suggests that the epidemic that is now triggering the pandemic today already has a promised remedy. OANN has over 13,000 videos and 1.2 million viewers as of publishing.
They also claimed that for many occasions now the channel has breached their COVID-19 content policy. YouTube also claim OANN had a breach in monetization capabilities. YouTube Partner Program (YPP) offers a subscription base of at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 cumulative viewing hours on their current vide.
The streaming giant did not explain which video caused OANN’s channel to be removed. Nevertheless, the video has already been pulled down and is actually not accessible on the suspended channel or any other channels in particular.
At this pace, if they continue to gain money from making material, OAAN must experience re-application on YPP until the suspension is lifted. That is despite their existing user base count already getting the YouTube Gold Play Button – an achievement provided to YouTube channels and video producers who have hit an amount of at least 1 million total subscribers.
What are the achievements?
YouTube channels that can hit at least 100,000 subscribers are granted other prizes, such as the Silver Play Button; preceded by the Gold Play Button; then the Diamond Play Button awarded to YouTube channels that have reached 10 million subscribers, the Custom Maker Button, YouTube channels that have reached a total of 50 million subscribers, and the prestigious Red Diamond Button
There are currently 653 channels exceeding the stage of the Diamond Play Press, fifteen YouTube channels for the Custom Maker Button as of October 2020, including celebrities such as Justin Bieber, KPOP phenomenon Blackpink, and the official YouTube channel of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). And for the Red Diamond Button prize, only two YouTube channels have made it to this stage thus far in history. These are the channels of Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie, which most people regard as the king of content production on YouTube, and the channel of India-based recording label SET India.
While applying for the YPP is now commonly considered an accomplishment, it is still a tough thing to achieve to have a subscription base of at least 1,000. Some condemn the software because of reports that by “bots” some channels accomplish the milestones on YouTube, where programmed bots are used to function as a subscriber to a specific site, and may even be used on videos for viewer count.
