What a time to be a Taylor Swift fan! Taylor Swift’s sensational album Folklore, which you can stream via Amazon Music, is a film. Tens of thousands of hardcore fans stayed up just to stream it on Disney+. The payoff: a new live version of the best quarantine album. Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions delves into Swift’s creative process at home. Ever since nations went into lockdown, millions admit to feeling lonely and uninspired. The 30-year-old singer-songwriter was able to take all these feelings and channel them in the best way she knew how – by creating an album.
Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions
The film, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions spans about an hour and 45 minutes, as each of the 17 tracks of Folklore are performed. Following the City of Lover concert at the beginning of the year, this is Swift’s second Disney+ release. The magic behind the tunes are not only because of Taylor alone, she gives a lot of credit to a small team. Co-producers virtually supported the recordings from various parts around the U.S. Additionally, Joe Alwyn contributed to the film with his beautiful piano skills. His songwriting ability was utilized on two of the album’s best songs “exile.” and “betty.”
With her mind occupied by anything other than herself, Folklore is unique from other award-winning albums she has made. The pandemic had her mind wandering and as a result, the album is about anyone but her and are sung from different characters’ perspectives. The movie was only announced one day before its release, but Swifties pulled through making it a megahit since debuting. Filmed in a rustic cabin in upstate New York two months ago in September, co-producers and Swift alike perform the critically acclaimed album during “rockdown,” (musical lockdown, how witty.)
It may be a coincidence but fans speculate that Swift’s The Long Pond Studio Sessions release was all part of a plan. Strategically, or so Swifties would like to believe, the movie came out on the four-month anniversary of Folklore. Another little tidbit All Too Well was released ten years ago. Similar to that classic hit, she is once again whimsically lost. It really fits the plaid vibe and big headphones aesthetic.
The Long Pond Studio Sessions is just pure emotion and it feels like an entirely different album. Isolation worked in Swift’s favor as she dreamed up how to retell stories from Folklore. The artist dives into all the nitty-gritty details and backstories of how the tracks came to be. It’s not all that surprising that Taylor also directed the film since she’s well-known for her creativity.
