Who doesn’t love modern takes on old loved ones? Sometimes, movie adaptations are made from game counterparts. Other times, old blockbuster films are remade into films known and loved today. Here are five remakes that were worth the wait.
#1 The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018)
Duration: 4 Seasons
This adaptation is far from the animation some have grown up with. The Mad Men child prodigy, Kiernan Shipka, now plays a half-witch, half-mortal. Sabrina struggles with the duality of her nature while balancing the everyday life of a teenager. The reimagined origin story of the Spellman witch has major horror and occult elements with hints of teenage drama along the way. Furthermore, Sabrina Spellman dwells in the human world and fights forces of evil that lurk around the corner.
#2 Charlie’s Angels (2011)
Network: American Broadcasting Company
Duration: 1 Season
Secondly, is the remake Drew Barrymore produced (a franchise she previously starred in.) The action crime drama is the redemption of three women who become Angels. They are technically private investigators and solve crimes under the Charles Townsend Agency. Unfortunately, the series had low ratings on the first few episodes. Nonetheless, the series has a stellar cast and is still worth checking out.
#3 Nikita (2010)
Network: The CW
Duration: 4 Seasons
The third series is a remake of the original La Femme Nikita, a 90s film. Maggie Q’s Nikita is rescued from a death sentence by the secret division of the government called Division. This sector of the government fakes Nikita’s death, giving her a second chance at life. Clearly, this is by Division’s own terms. In other words, Nikita’s trained to be an assassin and spy. The series follows Nikita as she seeks retribution after being in hiding for the past three years. Also, does everything in her power to destroy and expose Division as they continue their training program on younger generations.
#4 A Series of Unfortunate Events (2017)
Duration: 3 Seasons
The movie did Lemony Snicket’s series justice, and now an entire three seasons follow. Like its predecessors, the series follows the tale of three siblings. The Baudelaires – Violet, Klaus, and Sunny – investigate their parents’ questionable death. Neil Patrick Harris, from the famed How I Met Your Mother, plays their evil and scheming guardian after they are orphaned. Also, he does whatever he can to get his hands on the Baudelaire’s inheritance even though the siblings outsmart him every single time. Their Uncle Olaf does not waver as he dons disguises and concocts devious plans to make the inheritance his.
#5 House of Cards (2013)
Duration: 6 Seasons
Finally, Netflix’s premier original series. The network gained rights from the 90s British miniseries and made one of the most-watched remakes of all time. Set in modern-day Washington D.C., the show follows Frank Underwood’s rise to supremacy. Following the democrat, who was appointed as the secretary of state, goes on a quest to avenge those who backstabbed him as he tried to achieve his political goals. In conclusion, there are a smashing six seasons of Frank Underwood and his wife against anyone and everyone who get in their way.
