As the troublesome year 2020 is about to close many are hoping that the coming year 2021 will be a pleasant year, a year of healing and recovery, with the upcoming Headspace series in Netflix.
The year 2020 has been a difficult year to many people worldwide. The coronavirus pandemic has caused so much disruption to societies and existential threat to humankind generally. People are forced to adopt new ways of doing things resulting in high levels of stress. Many people find it hard to relax and to have a nice sleep, but Headspace could fix help with that.
That is why Netflix teamed up with Headspace to assist their viewers to cope up with their stress and restart afresh just in time for the coming New Year. Netflix together with Headspace will launch a series of three new shows in 2021, all produced by Vox Media Studios.
Headspace as a company
Headspace is a digital mental health company that offers sessions in audio or video forms on guidance to meditation that includes training on “mindfulness”. It aims to help people live healthier and happier lives.
Sessions run just for three minutes to twenty minutes or so and the range of topics cover from “Anxiety to Creativity”. Their sessions can be accessed through their Headspace mobile app or through online and they may be undertaken according to one’s own pace.
Headspace is founded by Andy Puddicombe, a former Buddhist monk, and a businessman named Richard Pierson. Wikipedia describes Andy Puddicombe as a writer, speaker and one who teaches meditation and mindfulness.
In 1994, Puddicombe discontinued his studies and shifted to pursuing his training as a Buddhist monk. He spent over ten years travelling around Asia to practice meditation that led eventually to his ordination at a Tibetan monastery in the Indian Himalayas.
After finishing his monastic commitment, Puddicombe decided to return to the UK in 2004 and started his private meditation practice offering consultancy to business people, athletes and politicians. He desired to make meditation and mindfulness more relevant and useful to as many people as possible.
It was during this time when he met Richard Pierson who was then burned out in his marketing work and who eventually became his business partner leading to the founding of Headspace.
Headspace Guide to Meditation, the first of the three series is expected to come out this January 2021. This first episode explores the benefits and science behind meditation linking it to mindfulness. This is a must watch to either those who are curious to know more about mindfulness or those who want to go deep in their mindfulness practices. The second series, Headspace Guide to Sleep and the third series will come out later in the year 2021, and more information will come in the months ahead.
Pacing oneself is important while watching the series. The good thing is that Netflix finally allows viewers to watch either faster or slower by controlling their playback speed. While waiting for the Headspace to be released in Netflix, some shows are entertaining to watch.
