This week, American electric vehicle (EV) startup Canoo unveiled their brand’s latest EV distribution van preceding their passenger electric vehicle, though along with the launch, another future electric truck is also being teased.
The current EV delivery van is often branded as a multipurpose delivery van (MPDV) that could accommodate for last-mile and long drive deliveries. The price starts at 33,000 USD for the regular edition of the EV distribution van. The tag and the size go higher above the standard.
New MPDV as part of ‘Re-Founding’
The incoming van will be the headliner and cornerstone of the “re-founding” of the organization that Toni Aquila, the current executive chairman of Canoo himself, has told sources. The new EV distribution vehicle is expected to be assembled in 2022, nearly 2 years since Canoo unveiled the van on the NASDAQ stock exchange, which will end next week.
Through the MPDV video unveiling, the executive chairman also added that the incoming vehicle has several usage cases in which it will work and fulfill as used. The company wanted to make the electric MPDV to look very smart, very modern at a very affordable price.
As reported, with output beginning in 2022, the estimated end will be in 2023, while the expected time period of production is at least one year at the moment. Although there is still no clear news on the exact development schedule for the forthcoming MPDV, Canoo confirmed that it will have a strategic partnership with Magna International, a renowned Canadian-based contract maker and car supplier.
The Alternatives to the MPDV
It has confirmed that, based on battery sizes and EV ranges, the MPDV would be available in two sizes. The first version, the MPDV 1, has a mile range of 130-230 miles, as planned. For an EV van, that is already a difficult mileage. On the other side, the other model, the MPDV 2, reports a lower mile range slated at 90-190 miles.
Canoo also reveals that the MPDV 1 is slightly smaller than the MPDV2. The smaller version will list the official size of 200 cubic feet of freight and is just comparable to the likes of the Kia Niro, which is about the same length as the MPDV 1, but around seven inches shorter. In the other side, the taller MPDV2 mentions 450 cubic feet of room as its estimated measurement. The same motor which is mounted on their front axles would control both models. It is fitted with a torque output of 200 horsepower and 236 pound-feet.
The organization is now accepting online reservations that provide a 100 USD refundable deposit for vehicles available on the official website of Canoo.
The unveiling even showed the organization teasing a sedan and a pickup truck under two sheets that had emerged.
If you have an electric vehicle with you, it would be best to check out Amazon to make sure you have a Car Cup Holder or a Dashcam Flash Drive for your car needs.
