By saying the new command ‘Tell me when,’ Alexa users are now able to schedule a certain event that they need to be reminded with.
Does this new feature will also predict the future?
Alexa’s first command of 2021
As the new year starts, Amazon Alexa also released a new command for the year 2021. As first reported via The Verge, Alexa is now capable to make a reminder in a specific event that you are anticipating.
Just by saying the command ‘tell me when,’ users can ask about an event—happening this year—and make Alexa remind you in the calendar.
For example, if you ask Alexa “tell me when the Super Bowl is,” your Alexa device will answer it and automatically schedule and remind the day of the Super Bowl.
Just like special events, Alexa devices can also save future events that you wouldn’t like to miss such as TV show air dates, holidays, or emails from contacts.
In layman’s term, Alexa can now be your online assistant anytime you want in a day.
Here’s what may happen, though
Though the new command looks like fun and real friendly-user, a lot of Alexa users have some speculations on what may happen in this latest feature.
Three years ago—and even until now, several videos about Alexa’s supposedly ‘predictions’ went viral in social media.
These predictions were said to be ‘unnerving’ or ‘scary.’
In fact, an Australian news site, shared a viral video of Amazon Alexa’s so-called future prediction.
A man from Colorado Springs in the US, asked his Echo Dot about the historic Hiroshima bombing.
Alexa said “This might answer your question.” Adding the supposedly answer, “’The bombing is 69 days – May 25th, 2018”
Of course, this wasn’t the right answer for the question. The Hiroshima Bombing happened on August 6, 1945.
No special event also happened on May 25, 2018—saying that Alexa may have just misheard the question. However, at the time when the viral video was posted, a lot of people actually believed Alexa for its predictions.
New speculation for year 2022

The device then answered, “If you think 2020 is bad, wait until February 22, 2022.”
The video was posted in October, last year. Surprisingly, Alexa didn’t explain this date furthermore.
It was also not known whether the audio was real or not. However, some of the comments in the page may have been scared on the post.
On the other hand, most of them said that every similar Alexa prediction videos—posted online—have the same voices, which implies that it could be a fake video.
