Two of the largest TV manufacturers in the world, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics, are gearing up to take the lead in the TV market this year. Both companies announced to launch their new model of TVs using mini light-emitting diode (LED) technology.

Businessinsider quoted Yonhap news agency reports saying that observers from the industry said that this year will be a getaway year for the Mini LED TV market as several TV manufacturers will launch products with such technology.
The lineup will come out in the high-end segment of the market. It is a new technology that is promoted to be the next generation of the display. Using 100 to 200 tiny LED chips for its TV backlights. It promises better brightness, clearer images with a higher contrast ratio and consumes less power compared to conventional LED TVs.
Industry research firm TrendForce projected that this Mini LED TV will take around 2% of the TV market share as companies aim to sell 4.4 million units this year. TV makers started to incorporate this new technology into their TVs and promise to continue improving.
Between the two electronic giants, LG was the first to introduce its Mini LED TV last December 29, 2020 to be launched early this year. LG’s new QNED Mini LED TV lineup has 10 models that offer up to 87 inches screen size with both 4K and 8K options.
LG Mini LED TV
LG’s Mini LED TV lineup has around 30,000 tiny LEDs that bring out optimum brightness and high contrast ratio. On top of that, LG combines the Mini LED technology with the quantum dot layer and its NanoCell technology. With these combined technologies LG promises the finest viewers’ experience.
Samsung Neo QLED TV
Samsung, the world’s largest TV manufacturers in terms of sales, introduced its Neo QLED TV that uses Quantum Mini LED. The Quantum Mini LED has extraordinarily thin microlayers that have numerous LEDs.
Samsung’s Neo QLED TV, with its processor which uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) combined with its Quantum Matrix technology, delivers premium picture quality that gives a more accurate and immersive viewing experience.
Samsung Neo QLED TV will come with 8K and 4K models that are expected to be launched within the first quarter of the year 2021.
The two electronic giants are contesting their way to the high-end segment of the TV market as they launched Mini LED TV early this year. The competition gets fierce as LG has been saying that Samsung’s QLED TV is basically an LCD TV with additional quantum dot (QD) sheet backlight panel. Samsung, on the other hand, pointed out pixels’ degradation problem of LG’s OLED TV such as the LG OLED48CXPUB.
Market researcher Omdia reported that Samsung still takes the lead in the global TV market with 33.1% sales market share during the third quarter of 2020. LG follows with 16.6% market share.
According to TrendForce, of the 4.4 million Mini LED TV projected sales this year, Samsung aims to deliver over 2 million units this 2021.
