The new series includes 6.2-inch standard Galaxy S21, 6.7-inch Galaxy S21+, and 6.8-inch Galaxy S21 Ultra with price ranges starting at $799, up to $1,199.99.
But, are these devices really worthy of its prices? Let’s take a look inside it and compare, based on PBKreviews.
What’s inside Samsung’s new flagship phones
Choosing smartphones nowadays is filled with lots of options. Whether you’re looking for the cheapest brand, the well-known model, or simply, looking for the regular ones; there is already an option for you to choose from.
However, one thing that differentiates Samsung smartphones from other brands is its non-changing hardware design.
In fact, on Jan. 16, PBKreviews posted a teardown video of the Samsung Galaxy S21, claiming that the model haven’t much changed since the last Galaxy S20 models.
Samsung Galaxy S21 teardown: high score for repairability
The new Samsung Galaxy S21 series do not include a charger or micro SD card slot. That’s the reason why a lot of original Samsung users, or even non-fans of the brand, remained hesitant to avail the new flagship phones.
Interestingly, PBKreviews video showed that the inside of S21 is one of the greatest deals to offer by the brand.
Upon applying heat at the back of the phone, the back panel came off easily from the device. After this, the reviewer unscrewed an estimated 22 Philip screws, nothing too extreme to remove on your own.
This easiest way to remove the back plate can even be done with a hairdryer, rather than a heating device.
Due to what seemed to be a non-complicated teardown video, PBKreviews concluded that Samsung Galaxy S21 do have a surprisingly high score for repairability with 7.5 over perfect 10.
Not everything was so simple to disassemble, though. As shown in the video, there were few parts that cannot be easily removed such as the front-facing camera, under-display fingerprint reader, and the battery – all of which were attached or glued into place.
Once a phone reaches high score in repairability, this means that the device can be fixed easily once had issues in hardware, or sometimes software.
This could also mean that repairing the device can be done in wherever repair shop there is. In terms of Samsung, this company only has selected repair stalls in the country—which may be hard thing for those who really need a repair.
On the other hand, PBKreviews do not really hold an official badge to know which device has the highest repairability score of all time.
In fact, most of its teardown videos do not include numeric scores for each device, so we don’t really know the basis of the Samsung score.
