To satisfy those who are looking for a bigger display screen, Apple is apparently about to redesign its smallest tablet. 2021 iPad mini 6 will minimize the screen bezels and increase the display beyond 9 inches. It will stretch the display to almost the edge without increasing the overall size.
Reportedly, the iPad mini will also add an in-screen Touch ID and a hole-punch camera. According to the recycledevice, to support front-facing cameras the upcoming smartphone screen development will feature the punch hole. Similar to a notch, the punch hole will have a cut at the top portion of the display screen but the cut will be within the display screen.
Overall, apart from the features mentioned above, the design remains the same as that of its predecessor, says Ed Hardy of cultofmac. The display area is reportedly around 7.7 inches by 5 inches (19.5cm by 12.66cm), which will be 9.5 inches diagonally. A significant increase from the current 7.9 inches.
Last year in 2020, the rumor was already circulating that Apple is coming up with a tablet with a display within 8.5 inches to 9 inches. Ming-Chi Kuo who broke the rumor said that this plan of Apple will be released during the first half of the year 2021.
A report from xleaks7 was out last Wednesday saying that the device that will be released is 8inches x 5.3inches with 0.24inches thickness (20.32cm x 13.48cm x 62.5cm). Almost the exact size of the current iPad mini with slight differences.
Once this leak will be confirmed, then the Apple tablet will be going through a similar process as the bigger ones have. The iPad Air 2020 already contracted its screen bezels in order to increase the size of the display. Back in 2018, the iPad Pro series reduced the overall size of the device without reducing the display size instead they did this by reducing the screen bezels.
A hole-punch camera
The device, with an increased display area without minimizing the screen bezels, will have no more room for the Home button. Apparently, Apple will replace the Home button with an in-screen fingerprint scanner, something the company is also planning to do with the iPhone 13.
Aside from the two features, Apple will apparently add to the 2021 iPad mini 6, the leak information did not mention other details and specifications. It doesn’t mention the kind of processor the device will use. Or what resolution will its camera support?
The released date has not been mentioned, although expectation has it that it may be released alongside the refreshed version of the iPad Pro. If this will come true, March will be the expected release date. Price has not also been mentioned. Will it come with a higher or lower price than the current? That remains to be seen when an official announcement will be made. The price of the current version starts at $499.
