With opening many accounts, remembering passwords for each can be annoying to many. Chrome and Edge are stepping up to provide solutions through password management features built-in directly to the browsers.
Last Thursday, Microsoft publicized its new password generator in Edge 88 which was recently released. Users can take advantage of the generator when signing up for a new account or changing an existing password. In the password field, users can choose the suggested passwords found in the drop-down selection. Then save it to the password manager which is already built-in to the browser. Chrome is also coming up with its similar feature.
Microsoft’s Passwords Generators and Monitor
While it has been said that making the password easy for users can become easy for hackers making users vulnerable to a cyberattack. Microsoft’s Password Generators take pride in being among the safest providers of strong passwords. So instead of troubling oneself in looking for unique passwords that are difficult to guess, users can opt instead to have a generator to do it for them easily.
Aside from the strong password generator, the Edge 88 also provides a feature that is called the password monitor. Not only can it generate strong passwords, but it also monitors saved passwords to ensure integrity and advertently avoid potential compromise against cyberattacks. Upon turning on the device, the password monitor will alert users when a password matches the lists that have been published online.
It is difficult to check passwords for their integrity against potential attacks. The browser, with its security measures, can do that without the risk of data transfer to Microsoft or any party connected with the company.
Chrome provides passwords protections
With this feature, Chrome can now prompt users to update the saved passwords when logging in to the websites. Members of the Chrome team said that one can update multiple usernames and passwords in an easy and convenient way. Starting with Chrome 88, one can manage all the passwords in an easier and faster manner.
The new feature is also making it more convenient to check whether there are saved passwords that are found in the dumped passwords. Although Chrome was auditing passwords last year, the feature is now already accessible to users by doing few steps.
Many people prefer to use a dedicated password manager than the built-in feature in the browser because of security reasons or perhaps due to ignorance or lack of trust. But with the advancing technology and further development efforts from the browser makers, it will not take long for them to show more integrity and capability for their password management features. It is quite alarming to know that cyberattack has become prominent as more and more shift to the digital world. Several government agencies from different parts of the world have been victimized by cyberattacks. Ensuring security measures and protection of passwords are getting more important.
