Are you one of the victims of Facebook sudden logout? If yes, you’re not the only one.
On Friday evening, thousands of Facebook users have complained the unexplained automatic Facebook logout, mostly on iOS users.
It even trended on Twitter with a hashtag, #SoFacebook. Here’s the explanation behind the incident.
Why is Facebook logging out?
On Friday evening, Jan. 22, the most-used and famous social media platform Facebook shut down, and automatically logs out users from their accounts.
Most of the victims of this unexplained incident were iPhone users. No one knows the reason behind the sudden Facebook log out.
Most users choose to input their log-in details again, to use the app. However, few decided to wait for Facebook’s confirmation on possible hack or security breach.
Based on social media posts, many of the people with two-factor authentication enabled were eventually able to log back in, but the SMS codes were very slow to send, and some have had to upload pictures of their ID to regain access.
On Saturday, Jan. 23, Engadget seek an explanation with the app. A Facebook spokesperson said that, “We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible. We’re looking into reports that some people are currently having to login again to access their Facebook accounts. We believe this was due to a configuration change and we’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.”
Aside from this statement, Facebook has not yet released any updates on the exact reason behind the said incident.
Facebook logout: Bug or hack?
Since the social media platform didn’t provide enough explanation, speculations arise on what really happened.
Most rumors detailed that Facebook could have experienced its biggest hack of 2021, thus, needed time to release statement regarding the issue.
Others, however, said that it could have been a bug inside the system of Facebook.
How to know if you’re Facebook is being used by someone else?
Though the social media didn’t admit anything about hacking or security breach, it’s still safe to assume that Facebook users need to check up on their account.
One thing to do that is to find out whether your Facebook is being used by someone else, through checking last log-in details:
How to check your last active users on Facebook:
- Open Facebook App
- Tap three horizontal lines in the top right corner (for iPhone and Android users)
- Find the ‘Settings and Privacy’ tab and go to Settings
- Under Security, select Security and Log-in
This tab will show you all the active log-in users and where it was logged-in. In case, the user isn’t familiar to you, there might be someone else, logging in to your account.
Just in case, you’re feeling that something’s not right. Here are the things you should do to be safe on using the app:
- Change your password immediately
- Change the email you’re using
- Launch two-factor authorization to protect your app for your next log-in.
