Tesla reveals its new Model S and Model X that brings new changes and features that are very pleasing to the eye and offers new experiences at the same time. One of the most notable advancements that the giant EV developer is currently the new models’ steering wheel designs.
Unlike the previous Tesla electric vehicles which usually have round steering wheels, the new Model S and Model X have rectangular steering wheel designs. The car manufacturer describes the new steering wheel as “the ultimate focus on driving: no stalks, no shifting. With a stalkless steering yoke, you can enjoy both the best car to drive, and the best car to be driven in.”
Like other vehicle manufacturers, Tesla also used stalks on its steering wheels. This design allows the company’s cars to have different controls for headlights, turn signals, and windshield wipers.
The giant tech company even used steering wheel stalks for other features such as the drive modes (PRND) and Autopilot. However, the new Model S and Model X electric cars are now very different since they don’t have stalks for their steering columns.
The tech giant manufacturer decided to use a streamlined butterfly steering wheel for both of the new vehicles. Tesla did this by replacing the stalks and relying on a mix of AI and for touch buttons on the steering wheel to replace the previous functions.
The steering wheel is equipped with the same scrolls already found on the Model 3 and Model Y wheel, but it now features new force touch buttons which will be used for high beams, Autopilot, windshield control, voice commands, and turn signals.
Tesla is currently betting the Model S, together with Model X, will be able to properly pull off all the functions. This new strategy is especially shown by Tesla’s solution to replace the drive mode (PRND) stalk.
Model S’ other features
The new Model S also comes with other new exciting features. It is also expected to have Tesla’s latest battery pack technologies and updated powertrains. This means the new electric car can match the current Model 3 and Model Y or even surpass them.
The new vehicle also has the capability to play the latest games such as “The Witcher 3” and “Cyberpunk 2077.” Elon confirmed this is his latest tweet, saying that passengers can play these popular titles, however, it is still not advisable that the drivers do the same.
It is possible since the company finally released its most awaited Tesla Arcade feature. The popular tech CEO claimed that it can match next-gen consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The new vehicle’s screen currently has ten teraflops of processing power, which Game Awards host Geoff Keighley noted was comparable to the PS5 and considerably more than the 4 teraflops in the Xbox Series S (Microsoft’s higher-end Series X has 12 teraflops). However, it is not confirmed if the car’s new Tesla Arcade will not have trouble when playing “Cyberpunk 2077.”
The new model clearly shows that Tesla is growing and improving its vehicles to fit what its consumer need.
