Google Street View and Maps finally received a new feature that would further help the users when they are going on a long road trip to visit an unfamiliar city or just relax in the mountainside. Using this application can be quite hard since there’s no option that allows you to see the actual place and the map at the same time.
Now, Google released a new feature that will enhance the user experience, especially those individuals who are relying on Maps and Street View to go to any place. This just shows that the tech giant company is still updating its services with more useful capabilities that will make your life easier.
Google’s latest innovation was done during the ongoing pandemic. Although the feature might seem not that useful since people are usually staying indoors to avoid getting the deadly virus, it could still be helpful for those who are working office-based, especially the medical workers.
Google Maps and Street View also addressed COVID-19 safety concerns, electric vehicle anxiety, which is usually common sense EV chargers are still limited, as well as avoiding the previous wildfires in other countries.
Google Maps and Street View’s split-screen feature
Street View and Maps App‘s new feature was first noticed by a Reddit user, saying that the two services adopted a new UI that splits the screen in half to allow the users to get a bird’s-eye view of their pinned location and navigate around the place at the same time.
The top half is dedicated to Street View app while the bottom half keeps the map view for better orientation of your location. This actually makes it a lot easier to roam around in Street View, as it can be fairly easy to get lost when you’re trying to swipe around through neighborhoods.
The app’s new app feature is also available on the web client and is now rolling out to Android device users. The tech giant company also confirmed that this capability will soon be available on iOS devices.
How to activate the new split-screen feature
Activate the new app feature of Street View and Maps is quite easy. All you need to do is follow these easy steps;
- Open the Google Maps app on your Android device.
- Search for an address.
- Tap on your desired result.
- Tap on the Street View window.
- Tap on the minimize arrows in a circle in the bottom right of the screen.
On the other hand, the new app feature can work both horizontally and vertically. This means that the new capability will also be useful for drivers who need to mount their devices in landscape mode.
However, as of the moment, it is important to remember that the new split-screen feature is only available for Android users with version 10.59.1 and newer. Alternatively, if you open up Maps, drop a pin, and then tap on Street View, your default view will automatically be the split-view.
