As the pandemic continues to hunt the lives of every human in the world, Facebook applies a new rule on their platform.
Starting soon, the social media giant will implement a new program that will remove all fake news, related to Coronavirus vaccine etc.
Here’s how it works.
No more fake news on Facebook?
The online version of COVID-19 virus is called fake news; it can be sent to anyone, can spread instantly, and can be deadly over time.
As the world readies to implement vaccine programs in each countries, Facebook is also making changes in its algorithm to address the problem on spreading fake news online.
According to the recently-modified rules on Facebook’s COVID-19 policy updates and protections, all news sites that will feature COVID-19 posts with ‘erroneous claims’ will be soon removed from the platform.
Some examples of these articles were linking to COVID-19 vaccine claims saying, it causes autism or worse, vaccines do not really help curb the virus.
As we checked on most sites on the platform, a lot of article sources were already turned-down by Facebook, as violations with their rules.
“Building trust and confidence in these vaccines is critical, so we’re launching the largest worldwide campaign to help public health organizations share accurate information about Covid-19 vaccines and encourage people to get vaccinated as vaccines become available to them,” Kang-Xing Jin, head of health at Facebook, said in a company blog post.
Which content are approved by Facebook?
As reference for those publishing their stories on Facebook platform, here’s everything you should now to prevent being removed on the platform.
The social media giant explains that all claims that contradict World Health Organization and other leading, reliable, health sources, will all be removed.
To check it, Facebook consulted with the WHO to have a copy of the verified information about the virus vaccine.
“We’re working to remove content that contributes to the risk of real-world harm, including through our policies prohibiting coordination of harm, sale of medical masks and related goods, hate speech, bullying and harassment, and misinformation that contributes to the risk of imminent violence or physical harm,” said by Facebook.
They also added, “We continue to look at content on the platform, assess speech trends and engage with experts such as the WHO, government health authorities and stakeholders from across the spectrum of people who use our service, and will provide additional policy guidance when appropriate to keep the members of our community safe during this crisis.”

- Sells or trades COVID-19 masks, gears, alcohol
- Claims particular product as solution against COVID-19

- Claims saying COVID-19 can’t kill its victims
