Xbox’s original creator, Seamus Blackley, confirmed that there will be a new console that will hit the market. However, it will be very different from the latest Series X and Series S consoles, which are currently offering new games with high graphics performances.
The upcoming console will allow users to stream the full catalog of games for the original Xbox One. The Father of the popular modern-day console was the one who confirmed that news, which is big since the company’s gaming devices have already received multiple updates on features, designs, and other enhancements to improve users’ experiences.
Blackley said that he is “psyched people like this idea. I wanted to see if people were still psyched about our old Xbox design. I’m amazed by the response. Maybe this is possible. It’s hard, all this stuff. But sometimes it’s worth the pain.”
As of the moment, the Father of Xbox hasn’t released any specific details yet regarding the new design. There’s a chance that the new console could just be a general concept, with no chance of being a reality or produced.
However, it is also possible that Blackley has already developed and finished the new Xbox console’s blueprint, which is a good sign that his team will be working on it soon. His statements indicate the console would most likely be a cloud-based platform. Microsoft has a cloud gaming system xCloud currently in beta, so this isn’t beyond the realm of possibility.
What makes the upcoming Xbox unique?
On the other hand, there are also two possible reasons why it is a very unique gaming console. First, its design will be the literal interpretation of the console’s name. Second, it is expected to be the only console of Microsoft that has the complete original Xbox catalog.
The original version of the popular game gadget had a respectable lineup of around 1000 games. Unfortunately, only about 200 were backward compatible on the 360, and only 40 games on the base model and Series X/S. That means 96% of original Xbox games are not playable on modern systems.
One of the reasons why only a few games of the previous game gadget were backward compatible on the next-consoles is because Microsoft is now using faster modern processors, which are too fast for older software to keep up. Another reason is that the previous console’s code is notoriously difficult to work with. Even Microsoft is unable to produce a working emulator for it.
Right now, there are still some veteran players that are choosing to retain their old gaming gadgets. However, those gaming consoles were not meant to last forever. Blackley’s upcoming gaming gadget could be the answer to their wish since it could be the best hope for saving many classic games. However, it is still important to take note that Blackley hasn’t released any update yet if they are already working on it. Don’t get your hopes too high on this one.
