The Volkswagen CEO has recently said that he is not afraid of Apple should they release an upcoming Apple Car.
As recently reported by Reuters, the Volkswagen Group CEO known as Herbert Diess has recently said that he is “not afraid” of an upcoming Apple Car. The CEO also says that Apple, the company, will still not be able to overtake the whole $2 trillion automobile industry just overnight.
Volkswagen Apple Car play
Just like how Apple usually is, the company has yet to confirm if it is working on an upcoming self-driving car. Diess, however, believes that the ongoing rumors about an upcoming car could be quite “logical.” Apple reportedly has its expertise in battery, software, technology, and design, and they can easily utilize all of its existing proficiency within those areas to be able to create an automobile.
According to the story by MacRumors, similar remarks can actually be traced to another article they made back in 2006 which was a year before the launch of the iPhone when Palm CEO, during that time being the leading smartphone maker, noted that Apple would not be able to “just figure this out.” He was referring to smartphones
Apple iPhone first sales
Just a year after, the iPhone was able to captivate the whole market which eventually led to a whopping $65 billion revenue in just a single quarter. The Germany based Volkswagen is known as one of the largest car manufacturers in all of Europe and even around the world. This gives the company some significant dominance over the whole industry.
Diess also stated that he is actually not concerned about Apple deciding to join the market or that it would disrupt Volkswagen’s known dominance. He then stated that he is “not afraid” of Apple and that the company “will not manage” to be able to disrupt the market just overnight.
Apple Car release date
A number of different sources have all suggested different types of timeframes for the launch of the upcoming Apple Car and the earliest of those reports suggest a release some time in 2024. Bloomberg, however, actually believes that the upcoming car is still “nowhere near production stage” and also estimates that the release could still be five to seven years from now.
While Volkswagen may have been quite dominant, the rise of Tesla has also posed a challenge for them being ahead in the EV game. Apple is more popular with their products like the iPhone 12 or the Apple Watch Series 6 but with them trying to penetrate the EV industry as well, it might still take quite a lot of effort to be able to diversify as EVs are a completely different thing.
