These days, most online games have in-game items, and some of them sell for serious amounts of money!
Through the years, the world of gaming has evolved drastically. What you couldn’t do in gaming about a decade ago, you can do now in the comfort of your own home. One of those is the purchase of in-game items, which can be really expensive.
To some in the gaming community, microtransactions and purchasable in-game items shouldn’t be a part of video games, but nowadays, it’s a standard most developers follow, especially in online video games.
Here is a list of some of the most expensive in-game items that were bought with real money!
1. AWP Dragon Lore – Counter-Strike:Global Offensive
Back in 2012, Valve introduced the concept of weapon skins through their hit FPS games Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike:Global Offensive. It was also then that Valve introduced Steam’s Marketplace, which was a place people could buy and sell their skins and in-game items.
There were many in-game items in Counter-Strike:Global Offensive that sold for a huge amount of money, but one of the most famous items ever sold with real currency was the AWP weapon skin “Dragon Lore”. It is also arguably the most famous CS:GO skins ever.
An AWP Dragon Lore recently sold for $61,052. What made it that expensive was the sticker that was on the gun, which featured the signature of retired professional Counter-Strike:Global Offensive player Skadoodle. This weapon skin definitely deserves to be on this list of the most expensive in-game items ever.
Counter-Strike:Global Offensive is an FPS (First Person Shooter) game which requires you to use a mouse to point and shoot. With the Cooler Master MM710 53G Gaming Mouse, your palms are kept cool for hours and hours of gaming with its honeycomb shell design.
2. Ethereal Flames Pink War Dog – DOTA 2
DotA, or Defense of the Ancients, is a game that Valve acquired way back in 2012. It is also considered the father of all MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) games, and has influenced the creation of games like League of Legends and Heroes of Newearth.
DOTA 2, which was Valve’s “sequel” to DotA, also includes in-game items which can be purchased by players, and yes, some of them are also expensive.
The Ethereal Flames Pink War Dog is a skin for the courier, which is a controllable support character within the game used to deliver items to players, wherever they are on the map. There are only 4 Ethereal Flames Pink War Dog that exist within DOTA 2, and one of them sold for $38,000!
DOTA 2 is a MOBA game, which means that this game involves a lot of key binds and macros. Even after hours of playing, the Razer BlackWidow Elite Mechanical Gaming Keyboard’s comfort won’t put much strains on your hands.
3. Sword – Age of Wulin
The in-game item called “sword” in the MMORPG Age of Wulin sold for a whopping $16,000. What’s funny about this expensive in-game item is the fact that it doesn’t have a special name. It’s simply named “sword”, but the sword’s enchantments were said to be some of the strongest in the game, which is why someone was willing to pay $16,000 for it.
