Porsche officially announced its decision to increase its investment in Rimac, the electric hypercar maker. Increasing its stake over the electric hypercar maker to about 24%.
Rimac, a Croatia-based company, is well-known for its electric hypercars. The Concept One was well accepted as the first all-electric hypercars in the market, says Fred Lambert of electrek. And recently, Porsche added its investment in Rimac to a total of 24% ownership.
Not only does Rimac make electric hypercars, but it is also evolving to become a major supplier of high-tech components for electric vehicles. Its business is thriving in supplying some electric car manufacturers.
Porsche’s investment in Rimac
Back in 2018, the German automaker has already invested in Rimac as a minority stake. And both started working together on the German brand electric vehicles.
Porsche has been slowly but increases its investment in Rimac. With the recent addition of €70 million investment that increases its stake to about 24% ownership.
The Croatian company has successfully developed and produces high-tech components for EVs, including high-performance drives and battery systems. It also manufactures electric sports cars. Porsche decided to join this young but promising Croatian company as investors having a minority stake. Porsche increased its ownership to 15% last 2019. And just recently, it added €70 million investment. Accumulating a total of 24% ownership without using controlling influence.
Porsche’s partnership with Rimac
Lutz Meschke said that Rimac has excellently positioned itself moving forward. Meschke is the deputy chairman of Porsche’s executive board. Also, a member of the executive board for finance and IT. He believes that Mate Rimac, the founder and CEO of Rimac, and his team are crucial partners of Porsche. Rimac is becoming a major supplier of Porsche and other manufacturers in the high-tech segment.
Porsche has already made its first orders of highly innovative series components with the Croatian company. That is why Meschke believes that the partnership will benefit both companies. Mate Rimac has become an inspiration for his brilliant and innovative ideas. And likewise, Meschke hopes that Rimac will also benefit from the company’s production and methodological expertise in development.
On his side, Mate Rimac recognizes that Porsche has been a major supporter of his company since 2018. He is proud of the privilege to partner with the world’s iconic sports car brand. Looking forward, he is excited over the new electrified products that Rimac will supply to Porsche and other car manufacturers. He is honored to be a partner of Porsche while maintaining entirely independent businesses.
The partnership with Porsche will help the company grow more as it continues to serve its customers. Both companies though did not give any detailed comments on how their collaboration will go about. What is certain is that Rimac will start delivering its latest electric hypercar as it recently started its pre-production. Porsche on the other hand is looking forward to the Porsche Macan electric, which is the first Porsche branded vehicle that uses Rimac technology.
