As the market for electric cars is increasing, Tesla expands its Supercharger station at Harris Ranch in California. The expansion will become the largest Supercharger station in the world.

Harris Ranch has been one of Tesla’s oldest and important partners for Tesla’s Supercharger Stations. And its expansion will be large enough to become the largest Supercharger station in the world.
Location of the expansion
Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant, Tesla’s oldest and important partner, announced on Facebook the expansion. They are looking forward with great anticipation as Tesla has started processing the papers for the said expansion plan. Proudly saying that it’s going to be the world’s biggest Supercharger Station with more than 100 stalls. The location will be right at the Harris Ranch in Coalinga, California.
As of the moment, the Harris Ranch Supercharger Station has only 18 charging stalls, says Fred Lambert of electrek. Tesla is on the way to add more than 80 charging stalls making it the world’s largest Supercharger Station.
The Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant is strategically located between the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Knowingly, these two areas are the world’s largest markets of Tesla’s Electric Vehicle. The Harris Ranch location has great amenities around and is situated in a lightly populated area.
Current largest Supercharger Station in the world
The area was the site of Tesla’s battery swap station project which was short-lived. Now it will become the world’s biggest Supercharger Station of Tesla. At present, the biggest Supercharger Station has 72 stalls Station located in Shanghai, China. Arguably, the current charging station in Firebaugh, California may only have 56 charging stalls but it is equipped with 250kW V3 Superchargers compared to just the 120kW Superchargers in Shanghai.
Harris Ranch is soon to be the largest Supercharger station
Now the expansion of Harris Ranch Supercharger is anticipated to surpass both of these stations. It is going to have both more charging stalls and to be equipped with the 250kW V3 technology. Accordingly, part of the plan is that Tesla will also position energy storage in the same location. This will translate to potentially save high demand charges particularly during the peaks and super peaks that troubled California in most summer months.
Tesla has been talking about its intention to use its own energy storage facility to support its Supercharger stations. This can help cope with the load on the grip and potentially save costs.
Now it is clear that Tesla has chosen the location between the Bay Area and Los Angeles instead of Kettleman City, Firebaugh. The five-hour-long and boring drive is comparatively cheaper with a Tesla car. As it only requires one or in few occasions two Supercharging Stations depending on the vehicle and the driver. The drive is easier for Tesla compared to other brands. The first DC fast-charging station was built a few years ago by Electrify America. It was located in the area between Los Angeles and San Francisco on the 15 Grapevine, California. When Tesla will launch its self-driving cars soon, it will become an alternative way for Tesla owners to travel. It will be practical to move around between the two locations instead of just flying through the airplane.
