Back at it again with one of the classics: Pac-Man!
Nintendo Switch’s Newest Game: Pac-Man 99!
Nintendo Switch has just recently launched one of its newest games: Pac-Man 99!
This new Nintendo Switch game is a play on the classic retro game Pac-Man, with a multitude of new features that are derived from the games Mario 35 (now discontinued) and Tetris 99. Pac-Man 99 conjures up an atmosphere of competitiveness with its “Battle Royale” feature.
The gameplay of Pac-Man 99 is still quite as close to its predecessor. Players will have to maneuver Pac-man around the maze map, with the ultimate goal to consume all the dots in the maze all the while steering away from the four ghosts (Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde) that lurk around the maze.
Power pellets are also present in Pac-Man 99, permitting players to eat the ghosts and send them to their base for a short period of time.
What makes Pac-Man 99 a uniquely new game, though, is that players will also have to worry about 98 other players they are playing a co-op game with!
Pac-Man 99 Gameplay
Every player plays the game normally, like the usual Pac-Man game. However, one major difference is that, when a player’s Pac-Man eats their ghosts, it dispatches a “Jammer Pac-Man” to a different player’s board!
Should a player get in contact with a “Jammer Pac-Man,” it will slow down the movement of a player’s Pac-Man and make it a harder experience for the player to steer clear from the ghosts.
This Nintendo Switch game also establishes new power-ups that introduce extra play styles, such as accelerating the game’s speed for better rewards, “ghost train” combinations that can essentially increase a gamer’s score, and the aforementioned “Jammer Pac-Man.”
A game in Pac-Man 99 will continue to play out until one player, the champion, reigns supreme in the end. One should not fret, however, because everyone will still be receiving rewards as a consolation prize for just playing the game!
Points that one gains from playing games in Pac-Man 99 will bestow precious in-game items to players such as avatar icons.
Pac-Man 99 has several game modes in its roster, should someone not want to partake in the battle royale mode. This is inclusive of the single-player mode and CPU battle.
There is a downside to this, however, because the other game modes are not part of the base game. One must buy it separately.
On the plus side, players are able to customize the overall color theme and the visual aesthetics of the game. Themes of famous Namco games such as Tower of Druaga, Galaga, and Dig Dug are only three of the many themes Pac-Man 99 has to offer its highly esteemed players!
