An owner of iPhone 11 Pro Max accidentally dropped his phone in a lake. One year after, the phone was retrieved with no damages reported on the device. How did this happen?
On Sunday, April 11, 9to5Mac reported that a tourist from Taiwan was able to retrieve his old model of Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro Max from a year of getting lost on Taiwan’s Sun Moon Lake. The man said that he was shocked to see that his iPhone was still found and surprisingly, working at the same time. The impressive stunt, however, was not mainly because of Apple’s water-resistance feature, these are all thanks to his phone’s plastic waterproof case.
iPhone 11 Pro Max survives 365 days under water
It’s a common knowledge that smartphones do not have the characteristic to survive a long-period of water dive. Commonly, handsets can only survive about five minutes up to 30 minutes of being under water. This fact was the reason why a tourist from Taiwan was pretty shocked to see his iPhone still functional despite its year of disappearance under a lake.
A man named Chen wrote on a Facebook group that his iPhone 11 Pro Max was accidentally dropped in a lake, a year ago. He first thought that his phone won’t be reusable anymore, let alone, be able to be retrieved. Suddenly, Chen returned to the place of the lake wherein he found out that the Taiwan Sun Moon Lake receded its water pressure, exactly a year ago after he dropped his device. Therefore, allowing people to search for missing items in the lake.
“On April 2, Chen returned to Sun Moon Lake to find out what state his phone was in. Locals told him the location where his phone was found had not seen the water fully recede in 50 to 60 years,” reported in Taiwan News.
When Chen returned to his home, he was surprised to see that the iPhone 11 Pro Max was actually still working.
Thanks to water-proof case
Though iPhone 11 Pro Max can be sturdy in water impact, Chen believes that Apple has nothing to do with why his phone is still working, on the first place. He said on the report that his iPhone water-proof case could be the reason why his phone survive the deep water impact from the lake.
“I can only say that the waterproof case for the phone is really great! There is no water in it!” He then added, “I’m so happy to have recovered my phone after having lost it for so long.”
