The new XF18mm f/1.4 R LM WR lens is to be the latest addition to Fujifilm’s X Series, a collection of mirrorless digital cameras.
This new portable and lightweight design, exclusively made for the Fujifilm X Series, is designed to be ideal for a variety of shooting tasks, such as portraiture and landscapes.
According to PetaPixel, the XF18mm f/1.4 R LM WR features a 35mm equivalent focal length of 27mm and a maximum f/1.4 aperture. It is the 39th lens to Fujifilm’s line of first-party optics.
Created to suit a wide array of purposes, it is capable of focusing on subjects as near to the front element as 4.33 inches (11 cm). Combining speedy aperture and wide focal length with this close-focusing endowment, simple daily moments and vast landscapes alike become an easy shot with this Fujifilm X lens.
Nine groups of 15 elements in three aspherical lenses and one extra-low dispersion (ED) element are utilized to lessen comatic and chromatic aberration in the Fujifilm XF18mm f/1.4 R LM WR. Thanks to this, its images can be reproduced with high sharpness levels. Additionally, the gadget possesses a front filter thread of 62mm, that’s 2.98 inches (7.56 cm) in measurement, and only 0.81 pounds (370 g) in weight. Metal was chosen for the product’s barrel so that it could remain lightweight whilst retaining strength, Fujifilm says.
This Fujifilm X lens is equipped with eight locations on its barrel alongside weather-resistant seals to ensure resistance to moisture, dust, and temperatures dropping to 14°F (-10°C). It sports an internal autofocusing system run by a linear motor which allows its accurate, quick, and close to silent operation.
The focusing group of this lens’ elements travels 0.1 inches (2.5 mm) total, all the way from its MOD of 7.87 inches (20 cm) to just about any distance it can reach. Because of this, focus can be achieved in as fast as 0.04 seconds, as tested internally by Fujifilm on its X-T4 camera’s high-performance mode.
However, should the lens need to travel further than its minimum object distance to gain focus, the company claims that the Fujifilm XF18mm f/1.4 R LM WR can still accomplish the task in no more than 0.25 seconds. Fujifilm also adds that, for precise focus control, the lens’ manual focusing ring components are specifically engineered for precise response, especially when slightly rotated.
A metal hood has also been developed by Fujifilm, which will be separately sold for $69. This add-on helps the prevention of ghosting and flares which may occur when light beams strike the lens’ front element.
As mentioned earlier, the Fujifilm XF18mm f/1.4 R LM WR lens’ impressive focusing ability was paired up and tested with another Fujifilm X Series camera model. Photographers who are interested in the efficient, practical qualities of this lens but do not yet have a camera compatible with it can purchase the Fujifilm X-T4 Mirrorless Digital Camera to get the best of both worlds.
