Facebook is currently experimenting on a new dating app called Sparked. Among numerous dating apps dominating the romantic scenes now, this new app offers something you might not experience in other apps. This app does not show your pretty smile, beautiful face, and appealing body. It focuses on the kindness of the users.
As video conferencing apps are becoming essential in communicating and being updated with the world. Dating apps also adapted this feature. Now, Facebook offers its own speed dating app quite different from what we are used to.
What makes Sparked different?
According to their site, Sparked is a dating app to meet kind people. Facebook’s NPE Team (NPE stands for “new product experimentation”) is the creator of the said app which are also the ones responsible for experimental apps.
Sparked, unlike other apps, doesn’t include public profiles, swiping, DMs, and definitely free to use. This app will provide speed video dates for four minutes. Moreover, app also says that if both users enjoyed their time, they will be scheduled for a 10-minute second date. The next actions will now depend on the users and they can now use other apps like Messenger or email to get in touch.
The Verge tested this new feature and tried to set up a profile. The user-sign up page makes sure that users will know that kindness is a theme for the app. With this, users have to describe what makes them a “kind” dater. Before users can go on dates, their responses are still under review by Sparked. This app also considered the gender preference of its users by allowing users to choose who they want to date, may it be men, women, nonbinary, or trans.
An email sent to The Verge from a Facebook spokesperson explains that the app indeed exists however, it is still a working progress and still in it’s “early experiment”.
Is this the Same with the Facebook Dating?
You might be wondering if the Sparked is a newer version of Facebook Dating. The answer is NO.
Sparked will be the second dating feature launched by Facebook if ever. Facebook Dating was launched during 2019 and allows Facebook users to create a separate profile from their Facebook profile. Also, Facebook will suggest potential romantic partners by the use of your Facebook preferences, activities, and interests.
What Other Dating Apps Can You Use?
