A TikTok video trend recently on the internet. The video contained disturbing content that also promotes the stopping of sexual harassment both offline and online.
TikTok, launched in 2016, is a famous app that has taken over the world during the pandemic. Currently, it has 689 million active users on a worldwide basis. The video-sharing app with over two billion downloads on App Store and Google play allows people to create and share a wide array of short clips.
Recently, a TikTok video trend spread online, which seeks to advocate for sexual awareness.
The Disturbing TikTok Trend
As implicated by its name, The TikTok users warn their followers about this disturbing new TikTok video trend. According to them, a bunch of men has declared a “national holiday” for carrying out sexual assault, specifically rape. The inhumane “holiday” will happen first on April 24. Users who have been alarmed tried to find out the source of this declaration. Unfortunately, however, the ones who are responsible for it are still unclear.
Still, despite the unknown names of these dirty monstrous minds, TikTok users made videos to raise awareness. Plenty of users participated in a bid to put into the spotlight the seriousness of this possible threat.
Most video creators who are included are women. For them, it is crucial to get involved because most of their followers are women, too, as explained by one TikTok user.
“And I need to ensure you are aware that there is a video around on TikTok of disgusting men: rapists, predators, child molesters, just disgusting human beings. And they came up with a date to publicize and actualize them raping women and children. You literally heard it right: women and children.”
Subsequently, the said TikTok user dated the “disgusting declaration” on April 24. She urged all people, regardless of gender, to take precautions, be alert, and stay safe. She also added, “You guys, please stay indoors. I know it happens every day, but they are literally making this date especially for that. Carry what you got to carry cause I think the f**k not. Stay safe, please share this.”
While the intensity of this disturbing TikTok trend is immense, others suggested that it may be a joke. Nonetheless, people are urging to stay cautious.
Another TikTok user said in her video, “The internet trolls have declared April 24th as “National R@pe Day,” the words appearing on screen after a trigger warning.
“And there are some people who seem to claim that it is a joke and a bunch, on the other hand, who are trying to say it is very, very real. So out of an abundance of caution, I think everyone needs to not be complacent, just try and stay home,” she added.
