Reports have been made of the return of ‘Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’ in a game remake, but is it really back?
Among the many Star Wars adaptations, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is among the most celebrated by fans. Its cast of revered characters, amazing stories, and epic battles are some of the main reasons for its popularity. Moreover, developers did not skip any details by giving each character their own exquisite journeys and arcs.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
First released in 2013, KOTOR continues to have a dedicated fanbase due to its remarkable stories as well as sequels and spin-offs. Unfortunately, the Star Wars franchise scrubbed its canon clean, effectively removing Knights of the Old Republic from the lore and reducing its overall significance in the franchise.
Many fans can agree that this gives injustice to the game’s characters who definitely deserve better. Revan, in particular, is highly important as his story is what holds Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic together.
What began as rumors in 2019 is now finally a reality. Gossips then revolved around Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic having a feature film and only a potential remake of the game.
According to Kotaku, Bloomberg and Jason Schreier just confirmed that the remake is being developed by Aspyr Media.
When questioned about the project’s legitimacy, Jason Schreier simply says, “There is something there. Yes, it’s real.”
Unfortunately, no further details were disclosed. Nevertheless, the revelation remains exciting news for many fans.
Aspyr Media, a game developer and publisher studio based in Texas, has been responsible for producing classic Star Wars games and other modern consoles, like the release of Jedi Outcast and Pod Racer on Switch. Moreover, this studio seems to be forgoing recruitment for former BioWare developers.
Unfortunately, there is no information about how far progress has been made for the KOTOR remake. Until Aspyr itself confirms the game’s remake, much will remain unknown. Many might expect a reveal during E3 2021; however, even that remains uncertain.
Nevertheless, a longer wait is understandable if developers wish to make the announcement in a grander and in-person event in the future. An announcement as major as this would definitely cause a stir amongst old and new fans alike.
Importance of the Remake
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is an absolutely significant game in the franchise; however, its lore and age might be difficult for newer fans to appreciate. Producing a remake will undoubtedly solve this dilemma.
The remake will most likely be adapted to cater to the modern demands of the fans in a Star Wars game, combined with the lore that will absolutely captivate the new generation to recognize that it is the best Star Wars game to have ever been made.
