A YouTuber with the channel name of Der8auer set a new world record using the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT.
The overclocking German legend uploaded a new YouTube video by the day of Wednesday. In it, he used a cooling rig of liquid nitrogen for pushing AMD’s flagship Big Navi GPU to 3.2GHz. By doing just that, he then set a new world record for the highest speed of the graphics card. It’s the Radeon RX 6900 XT.
RX 6900 XT Speed
Apparently, the RX 6900 XT graphics card produces a lot of speed, since it holds a boost clock of 2.25GHz. Although, Der8auer pushed the card 1GHz beyond its supposed maximum capacity, beyond the maximum speed it could possibly go.
The speed of the clock goes way beyond the made-up clock limit, being at 3.0GHz on the 6900 XT. That must probably be due to Der8auer deciding to use a PowerColor LiquidDevil Ultimate card. In addition to that, its clock limit reached up to the speed of 4GHz in the maximum. Along with that, it uses an updated XTXH variant of the Navi 21 processor within the 6900 XT. Accompanied by that, the frequency limit of the previous version increased quite a significant amount within a certain time period.
The LiquidDevil Ultimate
The LiquidDevil Ultimate made the most use of binned GPUs with the most efficiency possible. Binned GPUs are basically just silicons that are vetted for holding a high potential of overclocking. Not only that, but it also features a Voltage Regulator Module of 16 phases for the perfect power management. It’s mostly made for this extreme lot of overclocking. Because of that, it’s inevitable for someone to be setting another number of other new world records with the same Radeon RX 6900 XT.
The LiquidDevil Ultimate came packaged together along with a pre-installed water block. Despite that, Der8auer decided to strip the PCB anyway so that he could attach the LN2 cooling chamber. While doing that, the card pushes down to temperatures as low as sub-zero just to create a fitting overclocking environment.
He supposedly also used a customized BIOS, just as much as many of the other overclockers do as well. He said that it’ll be released at a sooner or later date or just soon enough.
Holding Immense Potential
It may have occurred for just a split second. Although, Der8auer accomplished a clock speed reaching as fast as 3,225MHz on the Radeon RX 6900 XT just before it crashed. By the end of the video, he then mentioned the card possessing “immense potential, at the very least for extreme overclocking.” Other cards may also hit the speed to as fast as 3.5GHz, or possibly a bit faster.
However, that’ll get within the range of some high-end and heavily-binned GPUs. Most of the gamers together with the hardware enthusiasts would happily receive the 6900 XT on their very hands. Just like the preceding world records, it’s treated more as a celebration instead.
