Since 1975, Square Enix has been prominent in the gaming industry, from NieR Automata, Kingdom Hearts series, and a whole lot more, the company has always been the number one when it comes to producing JRPG games. And one of those is the Final Fantasy series.

As someone who is interested in getting into their franchise, you might have known that one of their most popular franchises yet is the Final Fantasy series. The series has over 94 gaming content, and 15 of those are connected to the core storyline of Final Fantasy.

Not only is are the games famous for their magnificent animation and fighting gameplay, but also their excellent story, adventure, and lore is what makes the games even more fruitful.

Want to step into the world of one of Square’s best role-playing games yet? Here’s a list of the top Final Fantasy games that you would want to try for yourself.

Final Fantasy VII

The most definitive JRPG for the lot is Final Fantasy VII, which was one of Square Enix’s popular hit games that have revolutionized the Japanese role-playing game genre. Final Fantasy VII was originally released for the PS1, and it might not be big on graphics back in the day, its engrossing narrative proved magnificent to a point that it gained spin-offs and films after the game’s release.

Players begin the game as Cloud Strife, an Ex-Soldier who now works as a mercenary for the group Avalanche. The main purpose of the group is to save the planet from the harmful threats of Shinra, along the way players would meet other characters and battle against Sepiroth, one of the most iconic villains in the gaming scene.

Final Fantasy VII currently has a remake that’s exclusive on the PlayStation 4 console, and will soon be released on the PlayStation 5.

Final Fantasy IX

One of Hironobu Sakaguchi’s favorite FF games he’s worked on, and also his last was Final Fantasy XI. With its incredibly colorful world, a whole new combat system, and fun characters, fans new and old to the series are sure to have a blast with this game.

The game follows immediately from the original storyline, where players play as the adventurer that shockingly figures out that the princes of the ancient Zilart race are alive. Players must fight to stop them from opening the Gate of the Gods, which will bring disruption to the world of Vana’diel.

Final Fantasy VIII

Right after Square Enix released Final Fantasy VII, the company had to think of another game that could live up to the same hype and expectations the fans had with the latter game, in which they were able to come up with another smashing hit, Final Fantasy VIII.

The players will play as Squall Leonhart, a student who’s currently studying at a mercenary school and has to eventually stop one of the main antagonists of the game, the Ultimecia from taking control of the world’s time and space.
