Weekends are anyone’s time to rest and spend more time with their family. And this week is no different. Aside from that, this coming Sunday is also the celebration of Mother’s Day making it more special. Do you have plans already? If none, you might want to see these upcoming movies or shows this weekend.
As listed by TechRadar, here are six of the best movies or shows to be streamed this coming weekend. There are a lot to choose from if you are a superhero fan or if you are interested in real crime documentaries.
1. Monster on Netflix
‘Monster’ is based on the award-winning YA (Young Adult) novel of the same name by Walter Dean Myers. It is a legal drama about a black teenager named Steve Harmon (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). He is a high school honors student charged with felony murder.
The title of the movie was from the first statement used by the prosecutor upon seeing Steve. Not only because of certain factors but this resulted from Steve’s race. Situation worsened as people assume blacks to be violent and capable of crimes like murder. Here, we will witness the struggle faced by a 17-year old Steve in his fight to prove his innocence.
Also, this movie is reflective of social issues and inequality experienced nowadays. Consequently, it was also originally screened at the 2018 Sundance film festival. You can watch this Netflix original movie from any country that you get the streaming service.
2. Mythic Quest Season 2 on Apple TV Plus
Mythic Quest returns with another season on Apple TV Plus as they prepare for a new game expansion. This TV show tells the story of a team of game creators behind the biggest multiplayer online game of all time, Mythic Quest. But take note, the creation of the game is not the biggest challenge, it is the drama that happens in the office.
In the season 1, the company is about to release a major expansion to their game, in which they call Raven’s Banquet. But before it happened, the creative director and lead engineer had quite a conflict. Season 2 brings us the tension of another expansion experienced by the team. Also, if you’re a fan of The Office and you are interested in games, this is a show for you.
3. Jupiter’s Legacy on Netflix
Jupiter’s Legacy is not your ordinary superhero movie. This tells the story of Union, the world’s first superhero group. This is based from one of the Millarworld comics after Netflix purchased Mark Millar’s comic empire back in 2017. As superhero movies like WandaVision are creating a strong number of viewers this resulted in Netflix bringing its share of superhero series.
Netflix didn’t discard the effective elements of a superhero movie but still gave its unique twist with interesting characters and not so typical settings.
4. The Sons of Sam: A Descent Into Darkness on Netflix
Any member of the family that is interested with crimes and investigation may be in it with this show.
This 4th option you can choose from is Netflix’s new, four-part docuseries. Moreover, it examines the re-opening of a supposedly closed murder case of David Berkowitz, a serial killer convicted of several random killings between 1976 and 1977. This may be an exciting addition to your weekend.
5. The Crime of the Century on HBO Max
If you haven’t had enough of true crime, here is another one to add to your list. This is the latest original documentary of HBO that narrates the controversy behind the opioid crisis of the last two decades.
This might not be the typical violent and bloody documentary you are used to, but it exposes the reality behind the world’s pharmaceutical giants.
