Various analysts and experts are currently criticizing Facebook because of its methods on how to protect its user data. Should you still trust FB?
Facebook is one of the most popular social media platforms used by various people across the globe. However, some critics and experts are now criticizing this tech giant company since rumors claimed that users’ information is not safe in this app.
Although various researchers and security experts have already warned the public about using Facebook, they are still having a hard time leaving it since their friends, family, and their relatives also prefer using FB instead of other social media platforms.
On the other hand, its competitor messaging app, Signal, is now targeting Facebook’s privacy features. Previously, WhatsApp’s competitor used the social media platform’s data harvesting machine against it. Signal says FB disabled its account—Facebook denies this. Facebook says Signal never intended to run the ads—Signal denies that.
Various news sources recently focused on FB and Signal competition since it is a serious matter. Why? Because millions of users will be affected if Facebook is still tracking their information. Previously, Signal posted a tweet to show how its competitor’s ads work.
Facebook’s competitor said “you got this ad because you’re a newlywed pilates instructor and you’re cartoon crazy because you’re a K-pop-loving chemical engineer because you’re a teacher and a Leo. You’re single or divorced or in an open relationship; you’re thinking about LGBTQ adoption; this ad thinks you do drag.”
Imagine if Facebook’s ads really work this way. They can track everything about you such as the places you visit, your business plans, your gender perspective, and other information that should remain classified. To give you more idea, here are some reasons why people are advised to ditch Facebook.
Should You Still Use FB?
Previously, Facebook defended its side, saying that “if Signal had tried to run the ads, a couple of them would have been rejected because our advertising policies prohibit ads that assert that you have a specific medical condition or sexual orientation.”
However, some experts are also claiming that the social media giant‘s ads are pretty invasive. They claimed that FB’s data harvesting machine can capture and infer sexual, medical, political, and religious information. Although the advertising companies won’t disclose their methods of acquiring user data to send them targeted ads, this doesn’t mean that they are not really doing it.
On the other hand, Signal said that although you can’t see the user data, it doesn’t mean that it is not there. This is also the reason why the competitor of the social media giant claimed that FB can access your personal info without you knowing it.
If you are not concerned about this issue, then you need to change your mindset since it is a big deal once Facebook has full access to your user data. FB can send you some ads that are not appealing, which could affect other people’s perspectives once they see the advertisements on your feed.
The social media giant’s ads could literally put you as a red tag, such as accusing you of being a terrorist, a lesbian, and other information that will change how your friends and family see you as a person.
