The production of a new vehicle from Mercedes-Benz called the ‘EQS’ is already underway.
According to the car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, the EQS will be a newer version of the newly remodeled and redesigned S-class series, which are high-end cars and are traditionally viewed to be the most luxurious vehicle made by the brand. Despite being somewhat shorter, as teased by Mercedes in its advertisements, it has its own electric makeup.
Hence, this means that the Mercedes-Benz EQS is on its way to battle against the hybrid cars in the market, such as the new Tesla Model S as well as the Porsche Taycan. The new model will be out as a 2022 standard. Despite its price being yet to be unveiled, the Edmunds have recently projected its starting price at $110,000.
Although the new EQS will not have the usual engine roar that is associated with some of the gas-powered high-performance versions of most cars, it will still be able to produce immense power, despite being an electric motor without any noise.
The first models that will be out in the market in the United States will be the EQS 450+ that is equipped with 329 horsepower as well as the EQS 580 4MATIC that has 516 horsepower. Each of these models will have a speed of up to 130 miles per hour. The performance is expected to be 630 horsepower, which will be included as well to the possible version of the vehicle.
The EQS will be a major part of Mercedes-Benz’s strategy that will move more than 50% of its shipments to its drive systems that are of electric makeup, with its target date being 2030. It also aims to make the entire production to be free of carbon within 20 years. On the other hand, other vehicle manufacturers, such as Jaguar, General Motors, and Volvo, have likewise announced their phase-out dates on gas engines. Tesla has also switched to all-electric vehicles.
Last January, the Hyperscreen was unveiled by Mercedes at the Consumer Electronics Show done online. The vehicle showed its technology, with a 56-inch touchscreen wide display, equipped with a system on infotainment as well as a cluster on a digital instrument that almost stretches the overall width of the car.
The EQS will be the first car of the brand to have support updates on over-the-air firmware, which is a feature that is popularized by Tesla. It helps the manufacturers to update and upgrade or repair some features of cars without necessarily asking owners to pay visits to dealerships.
The EQS is projected to hit the dealerships in the country in 2021.
