This new Amazon camera scam fooled some users and made them pay $7000 for order. Here’s what you need to do to avoid being their victim.
A new Amazon scam is currently targeting camera lovers, especially those fans of Sony DLSRs. The new fraudulent act uses the high-end Sony Alpha 1 camera to lure their victims into sending them money. Consumers will be asked to pay $7,000 for the camera device.
However, when their most-awaited package arrives, they will soon know that the box is actually empty. This issue was first discovered by a photography duo from Alamosa, Colorado. They confirmed that after they received their orders, they were all empty boxes.
Bill and Kelly Chiles said in an interview with The Denver Channel that they ordered the new camera because they believed the high resolution combined with the high frame rate appealed to their wedding, senior photo, and graduation photography business. However, they didn’t disclose the camera model number offered by the Amazon fake seller.
Bill Chiles said that “we love that extra frame rate. It’s a 50-megapixel camera. We like to stay cutting edge.” Although the two professional photogs didn’t provide the exact model number, some sources said that the specifications that the two victims provided match the Sony Alpha 1, which is currently offered by Amazon and other retailers.
Aside from these, Bill and Kelly complained that they even waited for more than two just to get the package their ordered. However, they were even more disappointed after discovering that the box from Amazon is really empty.
If you don’t want to be the next victim of these rising Amazon scammers, here are the things you need to do to avoid interacting with fraud sellers and other fake retailers.
Avoiding Scammy Sellers
If you want to avoid scammers and other fraudsters in the popular online store. Here are the following steps you need to follow;
If a Price Seems Too Good to Be True, It Probably Is
Once you see that the seller on the online store offers expensive items at very cheap prices, this just means that it is a fake offer. You need to check first the original price of the actual product to see how much is the difference between the offer of the seller and the actual store.
New Accounts May Be Illegitimate
On the other hand, you can also check how many products they sell on the online store. If the seller’s account is new, then it will surely show few products being sold. You need to avoid new accounts since there’s a high chance that they are scammers.
Check the Seller Reviews
Aside from checking if the account is new and if the price is too cheap, you can also rely on the reviews that the seller received from the consumers of the online store. But, you also need to check if the reviews are really done by legit buyers. You can do this by checking the photos they upload and their statement. Right now, it is very easy to buy reviews on various online stores or retailers. Once you see that they only give stars without any comment, there’s a high chance that the reviews are also fake.
