Ford F-150 Lightning is one of the newest electric pickup trucks in the market. It was released so that the giant automaker can match the current Tesla Cybertruck.
Unlike the popular Cybertruck of Elon Musk, the new Ford F-120 Lightning is way more affordable. But, does this mean that its features are not that great? To give you more idea, here are F-120 Lightning’s features and limitations you need to check out before purchasing.
F-120 Lightning’s Limitations
There’s a whole lot to like about the Ford F-150 Lightning, though one aspect of the all-electric pickup could prove frustrating for those considering taking the leap into a gas-free lifestyle. This new electric vehicle was first unveiled in 2020.
Ford claimed that its new F-120 Lightning’s zero-emission feature is o mere nod to electrification but feels like a wholehearted embrace of the concept and all the potential perks that come along with it, with a line-up that should have something for almost everyone.
However, some experts claimed that if you want to buy the new Ford F-150 Lightning, the best choice you can do is to buy its Pro Extended Range model. Why? Because the offered price for the basic model is really more than $39,974 once the destination fee is added.
Previously, Ford also confirmed that if you are looking for an electric pickup truck with great battery life, the best thing you can do is buy the F-150 Lightning Pro Extended Range version or the Platinum trim.
Aside from these, many critics also claimed that The gap between the commercial F-150 Lightning Pro Extended Range and the entry-level F-150 Lightning XLT Standard Range is only a few thousand dollars.
F-120 Lightning Features
Although some people claim that is better to buy the Extended Range version of the new electric truck, the basic F-150 Lightning version still offers some high-end capabilities. One of these is the giant touchscreen.
On the other hand, the electric truck’s automaker also recognized that its customers still appreciate physical buttons and don’t want to have to navigate through endless menus to access essential vehicle functions. Because of this, the designers of F-150 Lightning decided to add some analog controls and, strangely enough, embedded a volume knob right into the bottom of the 15.5-inch screen.
Aside from this, the new electric truck can also support 2.4 kilowatts or, optionally, 7.2 kilowatts. The F-150 Lightning can deliver up to 9.6 kilowatts of power, which is a combination of up to 2.4 kilowatts from outlets in the frunk and 7.2 kilowatts from the cab and bed. That capability comes standard on Lariat and Platinum trims and is an option on the XLT.
Lastly, the new F-150 Lightning can also serve as a last-resort source of power during blackouts and emergencies thanks to a feature called Intelligent Backup Power. All of these features certainly make the new F-150 Lightning stand out from other electric trucks.
