Facebook recently had their F8 Refresh, their annual developer’s conference and updates have taken place. This social media giant makes sure to keep up with the demands of its users, catering to everyone as much as they can. And just recently, new features to the platform have been added.
F8 Refresh: The Developer’s Day
Over the years, Facebook manages to add new industry tracks and products on the site. Eventually, developers became a major part in this annual event. This year, Facebook made it possible for the first time through a virtual conference due to pandemic restrictions.
This social media platform focused on different areas, pushing further into e-commerce and easier communication features to connect users.
Easier Way To Message Businesses
Online shopping is greatly prominent in various platforms, especially since the beginning of the pandemic. With this, business owners now have an easier way to connect to their customers.
Engadget explains that WhatsApp, the company’s messaging app will make messaging service quicker and simpler. First, no need to type that much as menus showing message templates will be provided. You will also get more information about the business like back-in-stock alerts for updates.
Also, customers have more options to provide feedback and comments to business owners. Facebook claims that with these updates, you will only need as little as five minutes to get started on business chats, compared to weeks before. Therefore, in the following weeks to come, business owners and customers are more likely to use WhatsApp more . Another feature being tried by Facebook is Login Connect with Messenger. This is another messaging app that may be available in the coming months.
Aside from the e-commerce field, Facebook is also working on a couple of features to experience Augmented Reality. CNET also describes additional features starting with smart glasses which will be released later this year.
The company also launches tools needed for augmented reality effects. App developers may use These tools on video calls on Messenger and others. Some of these effects include online spaces, like space or campfire. More likely, users will get to have a vibe of going outside even through a virtual reality.
This last update is designed for researchers and people from the academic community. Facebook also announced a new application programming interface (API) designed for access by the research community.
This action is meant as a resolution to issues that arose from changes made to Facebook’s platform in 2018 following the Cambridge Analytica data scandal. The company made sure that user data access is re-evaluated and modified to the best of its system.
However, this change made it difficult for the academic community to gain information and data to use for their studies. And with that, the new Researcher API has been confirmed. It will allow researchers to gain access to Facebook data to achieve more understanding of the social network.
We wanted to make sure we got this right, and we were intentional about developing the best products to support researchers, while keeping people’s data safe and secure.Konstantinos Papamiltiadis, Facebook
Researchers can now access real time data from public Pages, Groups, Events and post-level U.S. data in a privacy-protected environment through the use of this feature. It will be available by later this year.
All of these updates are expected to arrive before the end of the year, giving more options and easier ways for users to connect and maximize the use of this social network.
