Are you willing to pay $99,997 for a single chicken nugget?
Well it is not just a simple chicken nugget. TheVerge reported about a McDonald’s single chicken nugget from a BTS Meal that has the shape of an Among Us crewmate. That was special, almost $100k special.
Ebay, the world’s online marketplace is known for a place where you can buy almost anything. And today, another extraordinary item was sold. This is not the first time that something special, like a misprint, has been seen as something rare and special. Usually, in these cases, people want to have this particular item considering it as a “limited edition”. And for those reasons that this single nugget was sold for that price.
Bids for the Nugget
This nugget was initially posted last May 28 for only 99 cents. And it has gone for a couple days without anyone interested. However, after two days, somebody placed a bid amounting to $14,869.69 and people just started raving about it. You can see the starting bids until the final bid which is $99,997.
It’s interesting and one-of-a-kind shape makes it an in-demand item worthy of the price. And as Among Us, an online multiplayer game is one of the mobile game breakthroughs of 2020. People that got interested in this item may be a fan of it. The seller, Polizna, who goes by the name Tav, told CNET that the nugget has “”unmistakable correlation with the actual character, even including an odd bump on the back that would represent the backpack.”
Also, a tweet from the official account of Among Us probably has helped boost the price of this nugget.
Aside from the peculiar shape of this nugget, another factor that added to its price is that it apparently came from a BTS meal. And you know very well how huge the fan base of BTS is.
Fans of this world-known K-pop superstars were thrilled knowing that they could purchase the signature order of their stars. The BTS Meal, as it’s called, includes 10 chicken nuggets, medium World Famous Fries, medium Coke and sweet chili and Cajun dipping sauces inspired by popular recipes from McDonald’s South Korea.
A nugget that is priced may not be treated as a simple nugget. People may wonder, will this be eaten, will it be laminated, how can it be preserved? All other questions arose as this is something that cannot be eaten in less than 5 minutes, just like your typical nuggets.
The seller said that they would freeze and air-seal the nugget and that it would be delivered “prior to expiration.” Seller added, “this food product has an average expiration of about 14 days.” Also, what good a nugget does without its sauce. Seller explains “I have Szechuan and at buyers [sic] request will ship some with the nugget.”
It was a fun and memorable experience for the seller, unexpecting the turn of events. Whoever it is that fleshed almost $100k may be the biggest BTS and Among Us fan, or just someone bored and impulsive.
