Get vaccinated, get certificate!
If you’re living in Australia, here’s a good news for everyone. Starting this week, the Department of Health announces that any vaccinated person can soon download a digital certificate, indicating they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. This certificate will allow the government to identify which person has his complete dose of vaccine, and which people have not yet.
What’s a digital vaccine certificate?
A digital vaccine certificate is a form online that can be downloaded by users. This form has all the basic knowledge about the specific vaccinated person, from basic information up to whether he has officially completed his vaccine or not.
According to ZDNet, all national vaccination programs in Australia are now required to submit the patients’ form in the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). On this website, the database is collected. Hospitals or any vaccine providers can submit forms online by uploading them or directly putting them on the platform through whatever system they are using.
There are no penalties if the provider can’t upload the said forms on time. However, hospitals only have 10 days to submit all the forms, but government pushes them to update them daily.
When is it available?
Former Minister for Government Services Stuart Robert faced an issue before the said implementation of digital vaccine certificates. This was after a lot of people were confused over his statement that the said certificates are now available to be downloaded online. There seemed to be a confusion on the timeline of its launching, but quickly gets clarified by Services Australia CEO Rebecca Skinner.
“At the moment, everyone has an immunisation history statement. If you have a myGov account, and you have linked your myGov account with Medicare, you can either look at your immunisation history statement through myGov or you can look at it through the Medicare Express Plus app,” she said. “Back when he was talking about that, earlier in the year, you could see your immunisation history statement. We then made some minor upgrades to that to add some more features, like a watermark, and a statement about whether you’d had your COVID vaccine, you’d had one shot … [if] you had two shots, you’d have a big green tick on your immunisation history statement.”
As per clarification, all digital certificate requests “might be able to see that certificate by the end of the week.” So, if you’re from Australia, you’d better register now to get the certificates quickly.
“As of this weekend, the COVID digital certificate will be available … it’s been a bit of a journey that Minister Robert would have known that we were on, but at that particular point in time, you would have been able to see it through the immunisation history statement,” said Jarrod Howard from the agency’s health programs arm.
Australia COVID-19 breakdown
Today Australia has been facing a serious issue against COVID-19 after one of its states, Victoria, was recently reported with the biggest increase in cases so far. Reuters reported that 11 new cases were added, from just two days earlier.
The total COVID-19 cases in the country now sums up at 30,000.
