Just right before the release of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3070 Ti.
As many people around the world look for available computer graphic cards in stores, a group of thieves in China recently got reported after stealing almost $8,000 worth of graphic cards in an Internet café. Suspects are still at-large up until today. This crime happened a day before Nvidia’s release of one of its newest graphic cards, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti.
Chinese stealing graphic cards
On Wednesday, June 9, Digital Trends cited an XChinese News website reporting about an unknown number of group of men, allegedly stealing inside an Internet Café in Hangzhou — the capitol of China’s Zhejiang province. According to the owner of the store, one of the thieves asked the owner to rent the place. Of course, the owner said yes and immediately entertained the group of people who entered his store.
All of them wore face masks, citing the COVID-19 regulations. One of the thieves asked the owner to get a garbage bag so they could be all by themselves, implying they will play all night long. The owner, again, took the request and look for a garbage bag. Within the minutes he disappeared, the thieves immediately stole seven graphic cards, each about 7,000 yuan ($1,094). They also stole few motherboards from the Internet shop.
Until now, since the thieves wore masks inside the shop, the police authorities are having a hard time pointing out the profile and identities of the suspects. The owner, on the other hand, has not yet released an additional statement about his experience.
Graphic cards demand
Graphic cards are commonly-used on gaming. Streamers, commonly, install high-quality graphic cards in their computers in order to achieve the high-definition gaming. Ever since then, these devices have been in demand for gamers.
However, when cryptocurrency came, a lot of people are now looking for graphic cards, not only to make their gaming more fun. But, in order to mine cryptocurrencies, even right inside their homes.
Market analysis even said that scalpers brought in $61.5 million in sales in 2020 for selling overpriced graphic cards— or $15.2 million in profit. Though sometimes the prices are doubled from the original prices, a lot of buyers are still willing to pay them no matter what, causing people to hoard them before it runs out.
