What are the additional features on the now-free Workspace?
Great news for work-from-home workers looking for some helpful tools online. Google has announced Workspace as now available for everyone. Here are the few additional features you will soon see on Gmail. Will it really help you on your work, or not?
Workspace: How to use?
If you’re not familiar with how Workspace works, just imagine the standard Gmail interface with additional random features on the screen. Before, this feature was only available for Google premium users, who paid for monthly subscriptions. But now, Workspace, as announced by Google, is now available for everyone– whether you have subscription or not. You only have to sign-in on your Gmail account.
As explained by the tech giant, the cost-free feature of Workspace is now made available for everyone since work-from-home status has now become the standard for most offices, or even schools. Simply saying, Google wants everyone to use their system for everything now.
“Collaboration doesn’t stop at the workplace — our products have been optimized for broad participation, sharing and helpfulness since the beginning,” said Javier Soltero, VP and GM, Google Workspace. “Our focus is on delivering consumers, workers, teachers and students alike an equitable approach to collaboration, while still providing flexibility that allows these different subsets of users to take their own approach to communication and collaboration.”
As said, not everyone had access on Workspace before. Now, anyone with Gmail account, are capable to use the feature if they like it. But, what makes this feature more awesome for workers at home?
Mail, Chat, Meet and Spaces
One of the many things that makes Workspace better than the standard Gmail account is its ability to show everything on one page. For example, now that you have Workspace on Gmail, you are now free to switch between Google Mail, Chat, Meet and Spaces, in one swipe. All of these will be located at the left part of the screen.
Meanwhile, all the features found on the right screen will include the Google Calendar, Tasks and Keep. In perspective, this will be the most convenient way to send emails, chat your co-workers, or even have conferences meetings online, simultaneously.
“If you start something with an email and then you want to upgrade it into more real-time interaction between a group — or even for a project — you’re able to do that and you can keep the context. Then you can all seamlessly upgrade into a meeting at the same time,” said Sanaz Ahari, senior director of the product.
What’s not to like?
Though, Google’s objective seemed to be a great idea for online workers at home. The Workspace addition may not be as fun as it looks like for people that are already used to what Gmail does.
For example, since Workspace will be immediately added now to anyone who has a Gmail account, all users are now forced to use the feature– whether they like it or not. For common people, this might not be a good idea. Just like they say, the simpler the better.
