Mercedes-Benz EQA: How Does The Company’s Most Affordable EV Make It Work?

Though not cheap by literal means, the luxury automotive brand has managed to develop a rather impressive new EV, the Mercedes-Benz EQA, which does surprisingly well for a considerably lower price.

Boasting a clever combination of mid to high tier features, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA is currently the sole star of the luxury company’s entry-level EVs.

This new vehicle is available in regions such as Europe, the UK, and Australia, with availability in North America yet to come. It has a starting price of £44,495, but costs can rise up to £49,995 for other model options.

Despite this EV being among Mercedes’ slightly less exquisite products, it is still absolutely capable of proving itself outstanding for its price.

Notable physical details

The Mercedes-Benz EQA sports a design very akin to the brand’s recognizable style, especially with its prominent front badge.

Ensuring that the vehicle can show off its own striking exterior at all hours of the day, it has a sleek LED light bar which is connected to its two front illumination units, plus another one at the back that connects to the rear light blocks.

As for interior appeal, the cabin provides passengers with adequate space for their legs and head to remain cozily positioned throughout lengthy drives. Furthermore, carbon fiber effect paneling and turbine-esque air vents make for added premium experience.

With the press of a door panel button, the EQA’s front seats can be heated up quite nicely. In between the two is a storage tray with generous space for essentials such as keys and a phone. A USB-C port and dual cup holders are present as well, but can be concealed if wished. Its door pockets too can hold quite a fair amount of trinkets.

While the backseats also offer decent space, individuals with more height on them may find it falls slightly short of headroom due to the fact that the car’s batteries are stored beneath the floor, causing it to rise a little higher than regular.

The boot on the Mercedes-Benz EQA holds decent storage area, but is visibly less spacious than what you’d find on standard SUVs.

Charging, range, drive, and etc.

The EQA 250 Sport model in particular features 66.5kWh of battery alongside an electric motor that can produce up to 190hp. Its top speed is 99mph with 8.9-seconds of 0-62mph time–nothing record-breaking, but just right for overtaking when necessary.

From its drive mode selection, its default option “Comfort” is most ideal for daily use. Sport mode is fashioned for enhanced responsiveness. For conserving battery, drivers can stick with Eco mode to decrease acceleration whilst, under braking, upping battery regeneration.

Mercedes claims the EQA’s range goes from 249-263 miles on one charge, especially with conservative driving; this should be adequate for typical day-to-day rides. Regardless, the vehicle doesn’t take too long to recharge at a fast-charging station. In fact, TechRadar observed that the vehicle can top up to 100% from 15% in less than an hour with the help of a 350kW charger.

For basic 400V/16A wallbox chargers, getting to 90% would take a rather dreary 5+ hours. For overnight charges, however, that’s perfectly fine.

Those who are interested in this considerably cost-efficient EV and would like further details on its specs can find them on the brand’s website, or watch reviews, such as the video linked below.

TechVisibility viewpoint:

It’s great to see a luxury auto manufacturer produce a quality starter EV that can cater to those whose budgets aren’t exactly limitless. If this new car’s compact features and practical pricing are enough to sway you, you’d better have something like a ChargePoint EV Charger ready. If you want to be able to charge your mobile devices and other gadgets inside this vehicle as well, an Anker USB C Cable will come in handy!
