Accompanying the addition of newly introduced difficulty options, with Treebeard and Shadowfax, Lord of the Rings Online players can now game either slower or faster.
As developer Standing Stone Games rolls out new options for difficulty, LotRO has brought two fresh, very appropriately named servers to the game; Treebeard and Shadowfax. These new Lord of the Rings Online servers, however, can only be accessed by VIP members, meaning free-to-play users will have to upgrade if they want in on the exclusive updates.
Fans will know that the Treebeard server–a slowed-down option that offers an XP reduction of -60%–is named after the fantasy trilogy’s unhurried and very intentional Ent. On the other hand, honoring the swift Middle-earth stallion Shadowfax, is the server named after him, presenting players with +50% XP for faster leveling up, as well as mount XP, legendary item XP, and +20% virtue XP.
Go easy, or not
Both Treebeard and Shadowfax servers also come with an option for selecting Landscape Difficulty, meaning players now have a say on how easy or challenging they want their gaming experience to be. In order to choose between Deadly +6 and normal, simply visit Berthdan, close to the Prancing Pony in West Bree.
GameSpot notes that adjusting your difficulty level can be done whenever by simply bringing it up to Berthdan, but those who power through their chosen levels receive rewards for doing so.
“If you begin a higher level difficulty prior to reaching level 11 and stick with a high level difficulty you will get rewarded for reaching levels 50 and 130,” Says Standing Stone Games.
Bigger prizes for bigger challenges
Moreover, players also have the ability to gain new titles from these new difficulty selections. For example, one can earn two titles for reaching level 50 and 130 on Hard+, plus two more if they manage to hit them on Deadly+.
“You MUST activate your desired difficulty prior to reaching level 11, and maintain that difficulty or higher until you earn your title. A Deed can be found in-game to track your progress,” clarifies the developer.
Another addition to LotRO are the “Eye of Sauron” effects which are designed to simulate the undesirable reality that ensues when the fearsome eye sets its sight upon you. As Standing Stone details, if a player is seen by the Eye of Sauron, their progress becomes stunted by various effects for the following minute/s. Nevertheless, players receive both “XP and Virtue XP for running on higher difficulties, starting at +10% XP up to +20% XP and +1% up to +5% Virtue XP,”.
Lord of the Rings Online has been going strong since 2007, but that doesn’t mean you need to play it using outdated gaming equipment. Ensure a smoother experience for your gameplay with something like a Logitech G502 Lightspeed Wireless Gaming Mouse. To add to that, if you’ve got even more bucks to spare, you might want to look into the Razer BlackWidow Elite Mechanical Gaming Keyboard.
