One of the world’s biggest gaming events is happening this August. And unfortunately, it is all purely digital. The Gamescom 2021 is back this year to bring the newest games from top publishers and developers. Here is everything you can expect from this massive gaming event.
Similar to any other events originally scheduled since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been changes with this event. Organizers originally planned to schedule a hybrid event, a combination of in-person events with virtual gatherings. However, so much for disappointment. That is not the case anymore. Still, virtual or not, fans and game developers are still anticipating this annual event.
What is Gamescom 2021?
Gamescom is an annual event that usually takes place every month of August in Cologne, Germany. The world’s largest video game event that gathers publishers, game developers, and game enthusiasts. This event features “an opening showcase alongside announcements from top publishers and developers” as described by Tech Radar.
Way back 2019, more than 350,000 visitors gathered in the event to witness what’s new with the gaming world. Also, hundreds of companies and game developers showcase the latest gaming, esports, and tech projects.
What’s New This Year?
Now what is different with this year? This year, the event will happen from August 25-27 expecting to see 19 game publishers. Including the biggest in the industry such as Xbox, EA and Ubisoft. Similar to last year, all events and activities will be done all digital though the original plan was a hybrid set-up. It is still better to be safe from the risk of COVID-19 spread.
With this in mind, it is exciting to see how organizers attract more viewers in the said event. Organizers also provide more details to the anticipated event including new features this Gamescom 2021. You can expect to see a new community activity called Gamescom Epix, together with the comeback of Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live.
As you already know, this event gives a sneak peek to upcoming games before it was actually released in the market. Certain rumors have spread as to the new releases in this event. Take note that this does not have confirmation yet, but fans are excited. Ubisoft’s Far Cry has already been trending even without the actual release. New releases expected next year may also be featured in the event like Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Moreover, fans get to be part of other activities that showcase their favorite game and characters. Among those include cosplay contests and e-sports competitions. It is also a big event not only for fans but for people in the gaming industry whether they are in retail, trade or in media.
For gamers, it is like the best party they can attend wherein they get to share passion and love for games. Also, have fun and meet new people that share the same passion with them.
