You might not know it but you can actually dislike the videos being shown in your TikTok account. Or maybe tweak the algorithm of your FYP feed to avoid showing videos you are not interested in. Continue reading to see how that works.
TikTok has been taking the world by storm as people from all ages use the app. You can upload your short videos dancing to some viral songs. Maybe sharing life hacks or debunking them. Or if you just want to share an interesting story to the world. TikTok has all that. And as the platform offers users’ basically all sorts of content, from book suggestions to creepy horror stories, there are things that we find in our For You page (FYP) that we tend to dislike. Though the app’s algorithm is quite perceptive when it comes to the videos you see, there are still some simple tricks you can do to make the most out of it.
What To Do?
For instance, you are enjoying your free time. And scrolling through TikTok to have a fun time. Suddenly, you were given a video that gives statements you oppose, a video that uses a song you hate to hear, or something that disturbs you. What to do? You actually have an option to dislike videos telling TikTok that you do not want to see similar videos again.
To do so, first, long press on the video you want to modify. Afterwards, this will give you options such as save the video, add it to your favorites, report, or not be interested. Take note that you can report a certain video if you believe it is offensive to anyone. Next, you will be given two options including hide videos from that user or hide videos that use that sound. You can then hide all videos from a specific user, if you just don’t like his content. Second option is to hide all videos that use that particular track which most of the time, shows the same content.
The Verge also added that by pressing long press on the video can immediately give you the option to select ‘Not Interested’. This way, it can hopefully modify the content of your FYP feed and you get to enjoy it better.
Double-Edged Sword Of TikTok
TikTok is becoming a ubiquitous term with the wide audience of it. As with any other applications, users still need to know how to balance the use of these apps and not abuse it. Just this week, USA Today reported about a 12-year-old Oklahoma boy participating in a viral TikTok challenge and ending up dead. This challenge is called ‘blackout challenge’ which dares users to try choking themselves until they lose consciousness. Therefore, the name blackout challenge.
Given the peer pressure and popularity of the platform, teens tend to try nonsense and obviously dangerous challenges just to be part of the trend. Just a reminder, it is important for everyone to know the limitations of any apps. And let’s just use it and maximize our FYP feed for entertainment or informative purposes.
