You will no longer miss any latest release from your favorite artists and podcasts with Spotify ‘What’s New’ feature. Today, the company launched a feature that notifies users of new releases from the artists or podcasts they follow. Basically, to not have FOMO or Fear of Missing Out. Check out the details of this new feature.
Almost everyone depends on the internet or apps for the latest news and information. And with everything that is going around the world, with pandemic, and cryptocurrency and the Olympics. It is quite difficult to keep up. Therefore, some have their share of FOMO stories. Spotify brings you a feature that can prevent that. On Spotify, users get to enjoy listening to their favorite songs and shows. Not only that, it brings you something new everyday with up-and-coming artists or new podcasts that might be of interest to you. Now here is an easier way to discover and keep track with the ‘What’s New’ feature.
‘What’s New’ Panel
This new feature is shown as a small bell icon which is similar to notifications. You can find it at the top of the app’s home interface. The What’s New panel shows users the latest and new releases from artists, singers, bands, podcasts and shows that you follow on Spotify.
Spotify shared that “there are 50,000+ hours of content uploaded to Spotify every day”. And with that amount, users may miss some of the latest releases from their favorite artists. It is quite difficult to always be updated though we are always online.
According to the streaming giant, they will be updating the feature real-time. Which means that you get to see ”new releases as soon as they drop”. If a user sees a blue dot on top of the bell, it means there is a new update available. The icon shows that the panel has new content to show from your last visit.
Moreover, the What’s New feature includes filters that you can play with to make discovery and searching for a specific content much easier. Take note, the feature includes latest releases from the artists and show you ‘Follow’.
Similar to the existing Release Radar Playlist?
As reported by Yahoo, this new feature is somehow familiar with similarities of Release Radar Playlist. This feature, released 5 years ago, is a playlist that is updated every week. Moreover, this feature will offer a list of new releases from artists that you follow or listen to most of the time.
Despite obvious similarities wherein both features provide new content to add to your Spotify library, the ‘What’s New’ is quite different. Release Radar uses both ‘human curation and software’ to provide recommendations that you are most likely to enjoy from a new album. On the other hand, ‘What’s New’ ‘forgoes curation in favor of comprehensiveness’.
Spotify announces the feature will be available to all users globally on iOS and Android in the weeks to come. So no more FOMO. with Spotify’s ‘What’s New’ Feature.
