According to the firm, its next foldable smartphones would “reshape the smartphone industry.”
Samsung has announced that its iconic S Pen will be available on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2 when they are released on August 11. The company also stated that no new Galaxy Note devices will be released this year. It will instead “further broaden beloved Note features to more Samsung Galaxy devices.”
On August 11, Samsung will hold a virtual Unpacked event where it will reveal its 2021 foldable device range, Galaxy Buds 2, the first Wear OS 3.0 wristwatch, and more.
Samsung Creates a S Pen Specifically for Its Foldable Phones
Dr. TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communication Business, writes in an editorial for Samsung’s Newsroom about how the company is about to usher in the “next era of smartphone innovation,” referring to the impending launch of Samsung’s foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2.
In the editorial, Roh reiterates that the tech giant will not release a new Galaxy Note smartphone this year, something the company announced in March. Samsung will instead incorporate some of the Galaxy Note’s features into its other Galaxy devices.
A stylus made for the pliable screens on foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Z Flip has been a widely requested feature, and would make the larger, opened up displays more useful.
He also revealed that a special S Pen has been created for Samsung’s foldable phones. Samsung’s foldable phones, unlike the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series, include a plastic or Ultra Thin Glass covering on the display that is easily scratched. As a result, using a standard S Pen with them is not possible since it will quickly damage their display.
How will it protect the softer, more flexible screen? What level of precision will the stylus have? What is the size of its nib, how sensitive is it to pressure, and will it fit in the foldables’ onboard slots? Will it enable remote control activities through Bluetooth?
It’ll be fascinating to see what changes Samsung has made to their new S Pen to address these issues.
The Next Foldable Devices From Samsung Will “Reshape The Smartphone Industry”
With its future Galaxy Z line of foldable devices, Roh believes the company will “completely reimagine your experiences” and “reshape the smartphone category.” He goes on to say that Samsung’s third generation of foldable smartphones would have “amazing new multitasking capabilities and enhanced durability” to provide customers with a better experience.
Samsung is collaborating with Google to ensure that popular apps and services operate correctly on its foldable smartphones, in order to improve the user experience. With the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 2, Samsung promises that even more third-party apps will take use of the flexible form factor.
On its Unpacked event on August 11, Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 2, and maybe its first Wear OS 3.0 wristwatch.
