Laser wipers for Tesla? This amazing technology could be used by Elon Musk’s electric cars as the U.S. Patent Office approves the company’s plan.
Tesla could soon release another unusual technology that would amaze many electric vehicle enthusiasts. This is specifically the new laser windshield wipers. The patent titled “Pulsed Laser Cleaning of Debris Accumulated on Glass Articles in Vehicles and Photovoltaic Assemblies” explained that the new car tech is a “cleaning system for a vehicle includes a beam optics assembly that emits a laser beam to irradiate a region on a glass article of the vehicle, debris detection circuitry that detects debris accumulated over the region, and control circuitry.”
Tesla’s patent added that “the control circuitry calibrates a set of parameters associated with the laser beam emitted from the beam optics assembly based on detection of the debris accumulated over the region on the glass article, controls an exposure level of the laser beam on the debris accumulated based on calibration of the set of parameters associated with the laser beam.”
Aside from this, Tesla also explained that the laser wiper’s exposure level is controlled based on pulsing the laser beam at a calibrated rate that limits penetration of the laser beam to a depth that is less than the thickness of the glass article and removes the debris accumulated over the region on the glass article using the laser beam.”
Are Laser Windshield Wipers More Effective?
As of the moment, Tesla and other EV brands, as well as gas-based cars, are still using traditional wipers. This tech works by swiping from left to right or vice versa in order to remove dirt, water, and other particles from the vehicle’s windshield.
Wipers are quite essential since it allows Tesla drivers to see the road clearly. Without them, road accidents would surely happen, especially when there is a storm or even just a little bit of rain. However, traditional wipers still have their own limitations. They can’t easily remove bird poop, dead insects, and other objects, which are harder to remove.
Although this is the case, Tesla and other electric vehicles have wiper fluid to soften these particles. However, some of them would still remain, which could still affect the driver’s road vision. On the other hand, the giant EV manufacturer claimed that laser wipers are more efficient compared to traditional ones.
They could save you some time since you no longer need to refill your wiper fluid. On the other hand, they could also burn bird poop and other annoying substances that are blocking your windshield more effectively. Aside from this, there are also quite safe to use since they would not literally melt your car’s windshield glass. This simply means that Tesla drivers don’t have to worry about suffering from Final Destination-like situations.
The U.S. Patent Office confirmed that the automaker’s document for its laser wipers is already approved. However, Elon Musk hasn’t confirmed yet if they are already working on this innovation. As of the moment, the best thing you can do as a consumer is to wait for the company’s official announcement. Since Musk has already proven his technology, which expands in roads and even outer space, people could expect another exciting technology from the giant EV maker.
